Nice place to live - no problems

My main complaint is the utility bill for electricty. For a one bedroom, electric is averaging $70-$80 per month - and that's before I start using air conditioning! I use minimal electricity and keep the heat at 62 so I think this bill is terribly high. I have had Georgia Power check the meter and it's OK so I have to assume the high cost is due to the age and insulation of the buildings.

I am a mature woman living alone so safety is more important than ammenities. From what I have observed, the main apartment complex off of Briarcliff seems better kept and quieter than the area off of Clairmont. I have had to have some things repaired and it is done promptly. The grounds are nicely kept. Management is a bit quick to create rules and fees. Otherwise, I have been here about 6 months and I find it a very comfortable, safe place to live.

I have been here for almost a year and have to decide whether or not to stay.... I agree with the previous comments 100% except for the promptness of repairs. The guys are good - I'm just not sure the office always gives them the message. I am also a mature woman and feel fairly safe living here. However, I do dislike the 'thin' walls to the entry foyers - my neighbors tend to use the 'f' word an awful lot and I really don't appreciate it! Otherwise, I have not had any problems with roaches or other critters. There are a lot of feral cats around but I would blame that more on former residents than on management. I do dislike the fact that there are only garbage dumpsters in one location. Doesn't seem fair to all residents. Probably my biggest complaint would be with management. Perhaps they have to be harsh and unfeeling in their messages to the residents but it certainly seems as if they go a bit overboard. Every time they send a letter, it seems threatening: your children are being too noisy, messy, etc. so they can't wait in the entry foyers for their bus anymore; you can't have bicycles, children's toys, etc on your balconies or foyers of your apts; if your window blinds are broken, you'd better get new ones or we will charge $20.00 for new ones. Everything seems like "you're bad, we're going to fine you or take away some privilege." I have been appalled at the pool days this summer. It would have been easier to count the number of days/weeks the pool was open rather than the number of weeks it was closed. In fact, their current notice reads "Pool closed on Modays (sic) due to cleaning". They have sent out 2 letters about rocks in the pool filters and keeping the pool closed because of trash in the pumps. I don't use the pool but I do tend to wonder why they haven't installed a cover over the filters to prevent trash in them. They didn't open the pool until the end of June and then had it closed (as punishment) because there was more trash in the filters. Get real - monitor it or close it permanently - don't play games with the residents. The place is 40 years old. My electric bills are out of sight. I did open the grate to my AC filter (painted shut) and replaced the filter - it was thick with 'stuff'. Maybe the bill will come down a bit now... Overall - I'd keep living here. My reason to leave will be an increase in rent with no increase in the 'benefits' of living here. Same apt, same problems - why should I have a rate increase??? I guess it's just SOP.
