CONS:
One word: Roaches. There are so many roaches in my apartment, I can't count them! They've fallen on me when I'm asleep/ studying! They're on my couch and in my drawers. I'm very clean and have had the apartment treated monthly, sometimes more, but this is ridiculous. The office has sent notices on Wednesday evening asking residents to clean out kitchen cabinets, bathroom cabinets, and bedroom closet floors so that they could be sprayed on Friday. Residents are fined $100 if this is not done. So, 24 hours to move all of the small things in my apartment... where'! I left town the first Thursday, came back on Sunday and had my apartment back together Tuesday night. Wednesday I received another notice that I had to do it again! I've had to do this several times, and it is SO frustrating because the roach problem only gets WORSE!
I called the health department, who informed me that there are no laws regulating what is "livable" as far as insects go, and because the office has pest control coming out, they are legally in the clear...
I am embarrassed to have anyone over because I am afraid they'll go in the kitchen (that's all you have to do to see roaches who frolic on my counter in broad daylight).
Except for James, the people at the office are often very rude. Oh, and the walls are paper thin and the floors creak. And by creak, I mean that I know exactly what my upstairs neighbors are doing.... all hours of the day... You get the picture.
Call it a symptom of the economy, but break- ins, attacks (several sexual assaults/ muggings) and broken gates (call box doesn't work and I was never issued a keycard, as promised) are too common for me to feel comfortable running in the neighborhood. The Park at Briarcliff is such a disappointment.
PRO:
The residents are nice (I love the multicultural/ multiage atmosphere), love the lake and dog park... but that's about it. I'll be moving as soon as my lease is up. Or sooner.

This will not make you feel better but it is the truth. I lived there in 1974 and the roaches were the same then. There is only one way for this to be taken care of. Everyone has to leave and take their stuff with them. Cover the buildings and spray them down. Every building has to be done or they just move from one apt or building to another and reproduce faster than you can imagine.
Appeal to the city again, with all of your neighbors, that this is a health hazard. You need three rent free days plus reduced prices in a motel so the work can be done.
Otherwise, you are stuck. I had the same problem, also in the 1970's in another house but it was a house. Both sides had to be treated plus the houses on either side.
It really has to be a community event.
If you are going to stay in Atlanta and get to a point where you have more money...move out to Sandy Springs or another outlying area where the houses are not so close and you can deal with your own vermin without it being undone by your neighbors lack of care for their own homes.
Just a hint, Texas is even worse...moved there after Atlanta.
