I am considering signing a lease with this complex. They advertise alarm systems as one of the apartment features. Do they actually have working alarms. I find it hard to believe so many peoples homes were burglarized when the alarm system is supposed to prevent it.

I am moving to Atlanta and am nervous about the high crime rate in the area. Any honest opinionsnwould be greatly appreciated.

there are no alarm systems, but you can purchase one for like $20/mo. they have gates, but the gate on the north side (where all the break-ins are) is broken most of the time. on top of that, the north side isn't fully gated (they are "working on that" and have been for months now, some plan). but overall, its not a completely horrible place to live. it's quiet and neighbors come out with their dogs. if you live alone, don't get an apt on the terrace or first floor, that may ease your mind of break-ins. and if there are waterbugs, forget about management getting rid of them. there are about 20 apartments on the list every month for pest control. they can get rid of the roaches though, if you get any. hope this helps.

The northside of the community is fully gated. Feel free to contact the Dekalb county police department for any information on break-ins. There are 2 courtesy officers that live onsite as well as 80% of the staff. The current management company did not build the complex and has been working on improvements every year that may have not been installed during inital construction. The gates are considered mechanical equipment and at times may break down. Any issues are addressed within 24-48 hours. Pest control comes out every wednesday for any resident that wants them to come for treatment or preventative maintenance. If you call with a problem it will get addressed. If at that time you are not satisfied they do offer transfers and will work with you to ensure your satisfaction.
