Recently, I went to check out an apartment for possible move-in. There was an older lady on the phone helping another person, and two college-aged young ladies sitting around. Mind you, I sat on the sofa waiting to be helped for approx 20 minutes until someone asked if they could helped me. To make a long story short, the woman that was assisting me seemed hesitant to show me the property. I dont know why....maybe because I am ------- American. She immediately told me that "we do not accept undergrads". I quickly told her that I have been out of college for some time now. While we proceeded to visit the vacant apartment, I noticed that there were no poeple of color aroud the complex. While showing the apartment, she (the leasing office staff person) made it clear through the questions she was asking that I would not be welcomed here. After leaving the site, I was very disappointed with the staff. They were very rude and somewhat racist. The landscape is beautiful, the location is wonderful, but I would not want to deal with such an unprofessional management staff for 12 months.

Just out of curiosity, were you dressed professionally or at least in a mature way? or were you embracing the culture of illiteracy and violence by wearing clothes that don't fit and pants that are way too huge? if the former is true, you have a legit beef, but if the latter is true, wake up and smell the coffee. No complex wants people that look like criminals wandering around their complex.

I don't know if your ethnicity is, however whatever it may be you definitely have displayed an attitude of ignorance and predjudice. If you are ------- American, then you are displaying the type of negativity that brings down our race. However, if you are White or some other race then you are unbelievably ignorant. The type of unprofessional or basically "ghetto" person you described only represents an extremely tiny and minute aspect of ------- American culture. Why did this person have to appear illiterate and violent if they wear urban clothing? What about white teenagers that are "wanna be" rappers. They often dress more inappropriately than black individuals. What about white people that dress like "poor white trash"? Does this mean that they embrace the culture of illteracy and violence that accused this person of? Regardless of what the person was wearing when they went to view the property, it was still immoral and illegal for the property manager to demonstrate that type of behavior. I have been the victim of this type of degrading behavior from white property managers in the past. I am a very educated individual and extremely articulate. I have called regarding vacancies prior to my arrival. However, when I arrive I am told nothing is available. And I always dress in business attire wherever I go. So please open your eyes, and as you stated in your own comment, "WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE"!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally, as a person of ethnicity, I eould side with waynehoobler. Whether your are black, white, hispanic, asian, or green, if you dress like a mess, you will only bring a mess. However, this is not to say that this was the case with your person. However, assuming that there was some of form of racism is way too radical. Why can we not say that the leasing staff member with you was just rude? She should not be labeled as a racist. I can tell you with certainty that I went in to that complex assuming I would be descriminated against and left feeling like a million dollars. Still, that was my experience, and I am sure that you are right to be upset, but calling the staff racist is way too extreme.

Hi,

I'm Black and lived at Post for 7 years. I never had any problems with the staff. In fact, I always found them very friendly. I lived at another complex where I felt that I was discriminated against for being Black so I understand your frustration. Prejudice is such an ugly thing and I hate that race defines our society so strongly.
