A little below par, but not bad

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2008
I've lived here since March 2008 and rent a 1BR place, which I think is pretty small. Location's great, as I take MARTA to work and to the airport. But its so small there is barely any room for kitchen appliances (microwave, coffee maker, toaster, etc.) and dishes. The bedroom closet barely holds my clothes, luggage, other stuff (I'm a guy, I don't own 50 pairs of shoes). The noise from outside is a little much. Freight trains go by all night long and the air conditioning units are right outside the windows. This stuff doesn't make a huge impression when you shop for apartments, but you will notice it later.
What I don't care for in this place is the condition in which I found it. The cabinets by the stove smell like urine. Yes, urine. Or an old litter box. No amount of cleaning with bleach will get rid of it. The cabinets were covered with a sticky kind of goo which was probably years of residue from cooking. I traced this to above the cabinets and found nothing but goo and gunk all over. When the weather got warm, I began to have a fruit fly problem and apparently they like said goo. Pest control calls didn't work. Apparently, the cleaning procedures for moving out do not exist or are loosely or selectively enforced.
I'm moving out next month and will carefully ensure the office sets a cleaning checklist that I will follow. After reading some comments here, there better be accountability on their side.
