After reading all the horrible reviews here about Savannah midtown, I was really hesistant to move in. But I gave it a shot, here are my impressions. I've lived in savannah midtown for about 5 weeks now.

First off, the people in the leasing office are hands down the nicest, easiest to work with leasing staff I've ever encountered. They answered all my (stupid) questions, they weren't all uptight, the whole application and move in process was a joy. Absolutely no complaints here about the management of this property (so far).

Boy do they hit you with some fees though. Pet fees are $275, non refundable. All in all I think we paid $650 to move in, which included about 5 days worth of rent for the end of that month. But this is midtown atlanta, you have to pay to play.

On the plus side of the cost though is our rent. As a previous reviewer noted, the prices fluctuate wildly. We got our one bedroom for $875, which was $25 cheaper than 2 days previously when we went in and got the application. I checked it again just 10 days later and the cheapest 1bdrm in the same floorplan was over $1080!

Lots of people mentioned that crime was rampant in this complex, with bums sleeping in the hallways and people getting broken into constantly. This simply isn't the case. If anything, its almost the opposite -- the security here is ridiculous. Every doorway you go through has a keycard lock, including the doors to your specific hallway, the doors to the elevators, as well as the entrance gates. I have never once seen a single bum-looking person walking anywhere physically inside the complex, let alone sleeping inside my locked, keycard guarded hallway.

Are there bums and homeless people around the area' Of course there are, it's downtown/midtown atlanta. They're everywhere. You can't hold Savannah Midtown responsible for societal problems like homeless people. They aren't allowed to loiter in the publix lot, and I feel completely safe traveling behind it in and around the parking deck at all times of night.

In fact, the tight security is my one and single complaint about this complex, its almost TOO tight -- its literally impossible to get guests into the place unless you go all the way down to the bottom of the parking deck and physically escort your guests through all the locked doors to your apartment. There is no system in place to buzz people's cars through the gates at all, only people who live here can open the parking gates. Lately what I've told my friends is just to wait in their cars until someone else goes in, and they can squeek in behind them and at least drive up to my floor and I can let them into my building.

So, that was the one thing I don't like about this place. Now for all the great things!

The location is perfection. Living so close to a publix (50ft or less) is like a whole new way of life. Its so nice to come home and just walk down to publix and buy fresh stuff for dinner. Forgot some limes for those coronas' Forget needing a 25 minute drive to get in your car, drive to the store and get back. It's a 5 minute roundtrip to get down to publix and back. Literally anything you could ever want is an elevator ride away. Unfortunately this has spoiled me and I will never move farther away from a grocery store again.

Aside from publix, you are then 2 blocks from peachtree, with all those hundreds (thousands') of restaurants in midtown and juniper. The Midtown Tavern is immediately across the street, as well as 7 or 8 other restaurants literally within 1 block (Rare, Aloha Bistro, Midtown Tavern, some chinese buffet, MF Sushi Bar, Old Spaghetti Factory, etc). The location is simply amazing for the price of these apartments.

Parking is ample and spacious, which further makes me wonder why they are so ---- about having guests be able to only park down on the bottom of the deck. The grounds are very well maintained, all the apartments overlook nice courtyards with lots of flowers and fountains and things. Everyone we've met have been very nice, people say hello to you in the elevator, etc. The demographics are mostly 20 and 30 something young professionals, very few kids from what I've seen.

The amenities are also really really nice. I don't know of a single other complex in midtown, condo or apartment, that has tennis courts and basketball courts on the roof! Its a breathtaking backdrop with all of the downtown, BoA, and midtown skylines behind you as the sunsets for a nice game of tennis. The basketball courts usually have one or two people on them just shooting hoops, and I have yet to see any rampant misuse by "thugs" coming and using them who don't live here. The fitness center has a full set of free weights (both barbell and dumbell), treadmills, an eliptical machine, bicycle machines, bench racks, and all the normal iso machines. There's even a nice new shiny stand-up tanning machine that costs like $2. Plus there is a rooftop deck with a cold pool and a hot tub, as well as tables and big umbrellas to sit under.

They even have a complimentary trash valet service. On mondays and thursdays, just leave your trash outside your door, and someone picks it up. That is sooo nice.

Everything is very nice and new and clean for the most part, our apartment was impeccable upon move in, and even tiny little things we mentioned like our fan making a clicking noise were fixed that day. Plus, if anything ever does go unfixed for more than 48 hours, you start getting free rent for everyday that goes by that its not fixed. This is guaranteed by Equity in the lease, I've done it, and I've gotten weeks of free rent sometimes, and they honor it.

Overall I am extremely pleased with the complex, it is by far the nicest apartment I've ever lived in.

Summary:

Cons: Hard to get guests in, lots of upfront fees at move in
Pros: Crazy cheap for where it is, amazing location, really great amenities, friendliest leasing staff I've ever met, solidly constructed, quiet, nice landscaping, really big interior spaces, new looking kitchens, everything in great condition, lots of parking, friendly neighbors, PUBLIX within 50 ft!

So far I love it -- however if anything changes I won't hesitate to come back and edit this review.

*Note* Someone a few reviews down said that someone climbed up 4 stories to their balcony and stole their bike, then climbed back down. I find that REALLY hard to believe, but if it is... don't keep your bike on your patio' At least on the floor I live on, there are always 5 or 6 really nice bikes that are simply chained out in the parking deck to the walls, which seems like a much better idea than constantly wheeling your bike in and out of your apartment.

No offense, but you've only been here for 5 months. I am in total agreeance with others that are unsatisfied with Savannah Midtown. Ever since december (major break in time), i have been terrified to come home to my apartment, and it is hard for me to sleep at night. The staff definately treats you like the enemy. Before the locks were placed on the doors (prior to your moving in), they would not assure me of anything i could do to make sure that i was safe. Now that the locks have been put on...im not sure if anyone else noticed, but, half the doors are broken!!! Defeating the whole purpose of the locks. Not only that, we are treated like children here...No roof top access after 11 or 12pm...are they serious, people have different daily schedules that need to be accomodated. I can't work out in my own complex that i pay a good chunk of change to live in. I would not recommend living at Savannah Midtown!!!!!

Nice try Management (Schevon), but you're two page essay and absolute love for the leasing staff completely give away who you are. Every time I am down in the office some other resident is already down there complaining because you girls never handle any of the problems.

This post is obvious Bull ----. 5 months here and not aware of the crime, lack of security, people that walk in off the street? This poster says that the Publix next door does not let bums in the parking lot, let alone the store? This person either is a dumb@ss or just an employee or full of ----. I have lived here almost a year and am moving when my lease is up.

I found my bike being stolen off the 4th floor *REALLY* hard to believe too!!!!!!!!!!!! But it's absolutely 100% true. Definitely something I never anticipated happening... E-V-E-R!! Also, there /are/ new security code locks on all the doors... but have you noticed they door handles are always broken off on some floors. Once one is broken anyone has access to the whole building. The annoyance of letting in guests is a small price to pay for a little bit of safety, however my guests can usually just walk right up because of the broken doors anyway.
