PS your car can get broken into anywhere...we are in downtown Atlanta after all. There are worse places to live in my opinion but you do get the welfare riff raff from publix and walgreens wandering around. Never seen any outside my door which is good. Ask yourself if you want a cookie cutter style apartment/complex (S@M) or something more urban with character

I moved to S@M in January...and enjoyed it for the first several months. The typical security issues / homeless people, etc...never bothered me, I say it comes with being in a big city. HOWEVER...events over the past couple of months are causing me to not renew my lease in January and to do everything I can to get others to not move in. One problem is that after a group of residents vocally complained about the lack of security, the fact that the gates to the gated parking garage were always broken and left open, and that the 'security' guard slept all night or else invited his friends to the upstairs rec area for parties...management quickly responded by getting the security guard to go upstairs and kick residents out of the rec area at 11pm and tell them they could not have alcohol...all while unsecured cars were being broken into downtowns. Moral of that story is if you complain, you will be punished. 2nd, our apartment has been INFESTED with ants all summer...and by infested I mean we have to have our cupboards bare and replace our entire food at least once a week for about 10 weeks now. They are in the bathrooms...crawling in through the front door, windows, balcony, showers, drains, etc...so they are obviously in the building. The pest control guy who only is allowed to come weekly tells us management didn't take care of the problem early, and that its now out of control. The staff has offered us nothing and has repeated told us there is nothing they can do. Just yesterday, we looked up Atlanta city code to find that a landlord must rehouse a tenant who's home is infested with ants. We called up Midtown to let them know this, and we were told, "oh, there was a noise complaint against you last night". My roommate and I were not even in our apartment the entire afternoon, evening, or night...we seriously had not entered the apartment once. So again, we apparently must be punished for requesting to have an actual bed to sleep in that isn't swarming with ants in a place were a paying $1600 dollars. Seriously consider living elsewhere, but if you do, enjoy the great location, and hopefully you will have a much better experience than I.

Interesting...I recently had some ants too. I caught them right away and sprayed the perimeters with Black Flag. Now I have a bunch of dead ants, but it's much better than the alternative. Invest in a can. I had mine left over from my last apartment (and no, I'm not a slob, you just run into this kind of thing when you rent and it's best to be prepared). Sounds like it might be too late for your place though.
OP, if you're worried about moving to the city because of the bums and car break-ins, you're probably going to have to go up to Buckhead and higher price ranges than Savannah. You're going to find bums almost anywhere in downtown, although you may find a place with better/different features that you're willing to pay for. Do they not have homeless people in LA? All they do around SM is ask for change, they are pretty good about leaving you alone otherwise. As far as the break-ins, just don't leave anything tempting in your car and you'll probably be fine. Haven't had any problems personally.
Besides the downsides of city living, Savannah is a good price for the location. And it is a good location. There are people around at all hours for Walgreens and Publix, but who wouldn't want to be able to walk out their door to go to the grocery store or a 24-hour pharmacy whenever they feel like it? Plus, you can walk to MARTA if you find somewhere on the line you feel like going.
You get the good with the bad anywhere you go. For the price, Savannah has been worth it for me so far.

Drunk people drive into the gate every other week now ..... also....it takes about 2 weeks for the workorder to fix it... if you are blessed to live near the parking deck(i can see publix from my front door) good ole homeless joe will be smoking his crackpipe and asking to help a brutha out haha...
July - guy drives off 38 foot parking deck
August/September- drunk girl in red mustang crashes into card reader at gate. Gate left open for a month. 1 week later gate gets crushed from car exiting the parking deck without waiting for deck to open.
it's a great location but the profits from rent are definitely not going to improve the building quality. They have cameras and if you have basic cable turn to channel 20 to see the video quality.
The cherry who posted above me has obviousily not had to RUN BUMS OUT OF THE PARKING GARAGE !!!! I have ran at least 2 off. Whenever I go to get my gun they will not wait for me ?????? (one was mad because he had his hobo bag on the opposite side where the apartments are and wanted me to let him in )
Wow homeless people in LA? great logic moron. You pay for the extra security or luxury of an Apartment Complex like this! The problem is the management does nothing but put a bandaid on your jugular when it's slit open. We aren't living in the ghetto but it will seem like that shortly....
