This place is a dump

I lived in Savannah at Midtown from 10/2006 to 10/2007. The only ok thing about the complex is the location. Here is an outline of our experiences:
1 Crime. It seemed like we were getting a notice every week of either an appartment break-in, car break-in or a car stolen. Towards the end of our lease I became increasingly worried for the safety of my girlfriend and I. The leasing office didnt even inform the tenants of all of the crime incidents; only those that they believed we already knew.
2 The key card system to access door is useless because people just jump/climb the fence and access the doors to the buildings that do not face the parking deck. There was no key card needed for these doors and in most cases the doors were left open.
3 the gates to the parking deck are left in the open position b/c they are broken most of the time.
4 Homeless people, vagrants, and non-residents use the work-out facilities, pool, and basketball courts on the roof like their own free personal gym. Dont ever go in the pool or hot tub as people use these to soak their nasty feet and/or bathe in.
5 the pet policy is BS. I have seen and heard dogs that are well above the 25 lbs limit. Also the dogs crap everywhere; in the walkways and the parking deck. management does nothing but pass out flyers.
6 trash valet service. some tenants think this means that you can leave trash outside your appartment any time and it will be picked up. Management does nothing so you get to walk up down smelly hallways with week old trash in them.
7 noise. People make all sorts of noise and go up on the roof until early in the morning drinking and carrying on. Calls to the after hours security officer go unanswered.
8 Security''' at ont time there was a "security" officer, but he was useless. The crime was probably just as high when he was present.
9 publix shopping carts. Tenants push the shopping carts back to the complex and leave them in the parking deck, in the halls and even in the freaking elevator.
10 the front office staff is friendly, but useless for the most part. they do not have the capability or knowledge to solve your problems.
12 the interior of the appartments look cheap; carpet, trim and fixtures. We had a serious mold problem with our unit that i believe made us sick at times.
I would not reccomend this complex to anyone. It is definately worth paying more for a different location that is built better, you do not have to fear for your safety, worry about your place getting broken in to, work about your car being vandalized, have bums beg and harrass you and has a staff that cares about you and is willing to inforce it's rules to make your quality of life better.

Evidently you must not have received you security deposit back in full because I would say 85% of the statements you just made are absolute --------. I have lived here for over a year a and have not experienced any of what your saying. Everything you have said are complete opinions and assumptions and have no factual basis. I think it would be awesome for the management to be able to write their opinions of tenants once they move out. I'm sure their opinion of you would be real high. It would probably have a higher degree of validity than what you stated about the property.

Interesting that people have had good experiences at Savannah Midtown. I agree 100% with this rating. I lived in SM for 2 years, from 8/04-7/06 (and yes, when I moved out, I received my full security deposit - it only took them nearly FOUR MONTHS to send the check to me after my move out date!) and had nothing but problems. While the office staff is polite and will fill out the necessary forms when tenants have issues, none of my complaints were answered. I specifically asked for documentation of my noise complaints (FOUR COMPLAINTS - I then began to call the police instead), and never received so much as a call back. Regarding the crime - all one has to do is call the police and they will be able to share the FACTS regarding the thefts, break ins, and vagrants in the area....
Beware - I've lived in seven different apartment complexes in the last 8.5 years and have never had an experience worse than that at SM. I was elated when my lease was completed.

I've lived in SM since april and never once have seen any notices about breakins; I've never seen a "vagrant" or homeless person anywhere on the property, let alone in the fitness room or hot tub. Publix shopping carts have automatic locks on them that render them immobile if you take them past a yellow line, so I fail to see how they could get into our elevators -- so you're obviously lying.

I've been here since summer and have to agree with just about everything the poster is saying. I don't know who wrote that first response, but I have a hard time believing they're actually a tenant. We haven't gotten any break-in notices either, but we've seen cars that have been broken into in the parking deck a few times. If you like the city and don't mind being on the seedy side of things, maybe this place works for you. But compare the rent with higher quality, safer places that are close by and you'll see that it's not worth paying the price for what you get. If you honestly live here and don't see any of the issues the poster listed, then you must have the best unit in the place. Everywhere else is as described.

I've lived here since February and have just renewed my lease. I don't agree with most of the comments of the original poster. I'm a woman and certainly don't feel like I'm in danger living here. I've NEVER seen homeless people IN the property...definately seen them by Walgreens and Publix, but not "soaking their feet in the hot-tub". Are you kidding? Non-residents DO follow cars and others into the elevator to access the gym and the basketball court - I hate that, but what can management do since they follow RESIDENTS in? WE have to buzz them up to the 8th floor, right? I'm not about to play civil police...I'll just go to LA Fitness if it's ever that serious. Cars are broken into everywhere at EVERY complex. The trash valet service does get abused by residents who leave it out the night or even day before instead of getting up at 8am to place it in front of their doors. Depending on my night, I'm even a culprit of that. Noise can be a problem at times, but again, that will be a problem everywhere until you purchase a home on an acre of land. You've got to choose your battles...you live in Midtown.

I don't live at SM, but most of the reviews are saying the same thing-- noise, crime, homeless people, and value. I think the first response, talking about not receiving their deposit back in full, is a ploy by someone who either works at SM or someone dedicated to defending them. I think I've heard enough though. The place doesn't seem worth the risk
