GOING DOWN FAST

I have lived at sloan square for a year and can honestly say that this apartment complex is going downhill fast. i echo other complaints that the new management is sneaky, greedy, and turning what used to be a nice apt complex into a crappy place to live.
when my fiance and i first moved in, we paid a bloated $920 to live there. even though it was a little high for the large one bedroom, it was worth it-close to emory and the metro, clean, pest-free, nice pool, (little) exercise room, and very nice and accomodating mgmt staff. pretty much everything we needed. however, when the new management came in the spring, they immediately pressured us into renewing our lease 3 months in advance - they invited us to the office to "talk" about the possibility of renewing and then asked us to sign then and there without a chance to think it over and glossing over extra costs saying they would be negligible.
they changed the water/sewege/trash company, first doubling our fee for this utility (it went from 12-14 a month to 24 a month for the same service!) and we recently began receiving additional charges for common electric (the stairway lights!), common gas (heating the pool!) and pest control (used to be included in rent...) what decent property mgmt makes tenants pay for this'!'!'
the new mgmt insists on having a million bright yellow signs advertising low cost luxury apartments along la vista road, making the front of the property look cheap and tacky and dont get me started on the man dressed as a bright yellow stop light waving people into the leasing office everyday during rush hour! the pool used to be a quiet place to relax on the weekends and now its ridden with trash, beer cans, and loud visitors. we pay $50 more in rent now and nothing has gotten better-if anything its gotten worse!
i regret having renewed my lease and am thinking about breaking it asap and using the money i would have spent on extra costs on a new place. if youre thinking of moving here, think again. the new mgmt is ruining the place and its NOT WORTH IT!!!!

i totally agree and just be careful now that they've sucked you into a new lease. To break it they make you pay every month's rent UNTIL THEY CAN FIND A REPLACEMENT!!!! That is on top of the however many hundreds of dollars it costs to break.
Just be careful and good luck getting out of there.

How much are the additional charges for common electric and gas? It's time for me to renew my lease and they aren't being upfront about it.

In reply to the question about common gas and electric.... I am assuming the amounts are already being charged you if you have a lease now. Check your recent bills from Heartland Regional Power. If you are not being charged these, then we have an even more unfiar situation than I realized, with only some of us paying these extra fees!!!
