Sloan Square

We are only subletting here for another few weeks, and I am glad, because on July 15 there was a murder in the next breezeway over from mine. Police were crawling the place and the body was there for hours (I could see the guy's arm from my balcony- terrifying). Now I'm seeing the benefit of gated communities.
Otherwise, it's been ok. Maintenance and groundskeeping are poor. They cleaned out all the breezeways and stairways and just blew all the papers and trash onto the ground, where it's stayed for 2 weeks. The pools are small and often closed for no apparent reason. The tap water is very yellowy-brown. Water leaked through our ceiling (and we're not on the top floor). Our garbage disposal is broken and hasn't been fixed in the 7 weeks we've been here. Our balcony has loose slats so I'm afraid my dog will fall off. Oh, and she contracted hookworms from all the dog ---- around the property. Everything else in the kitchen and bathroom is fine, and it's pretty large for a 1-bedroom.
One thing I like about Sloan Square is the excellent location surrounded by decent middle class neighborhoods. I am shocked and horrified over the murder, and I doubt I will feel so safe and comfortable at this complex for my next 3 weeks here.

This is the absolute truth. There was a murder today. Residents were left milling around. Conversations with others today confirm that mgt has now been reducing rents, getting more questionable tenants in. We're moving out in two days.

I have been living at Sloan Square for 2 years and I have seen the negative changes others have noted since the new management took over. In response to these posts I called the homicide division of the police department and there was NOT a murder. That does not mean I feel 100% safe, and I think we need some kind of security, but we should not go blowing this out of proportion without some facts.

yeah these are defiantley considered ghetto after yesterday's event. That man was lying down outside for three or more hours and the management has not sent any kind of letters out to explain the incedent or to just make the tenants feel comfortable.

Sure crime happens everywhere, but I'm 25 and I've never witnessed a murder (or even a shooting) until I moved to Sloan Square. For some people, safety is a priority in their housing choices, and I think that's legitimate.

The responsibility for this is I think goes to management itself. Since when new corner group management came in esistence, the peoples of leasing office start behaving badly so the peoples start moving from Sloan square. The management then reduce the rent and start leasing the peoples with poor background and when you have more peoples like that such incidences are quite possible. Just by having a look at parking lot (construction trucks everywhere) one can have ideas which kind of peoples the management rents. Of course the water bill is jumping like anything. One year before when old owener was there the water bill was 13-14$ per month. Now my last month bill was 66$
