A few positives, a lot of negatives

I have lived here for over 3 years, and I would have to agree with the other reviewers that things have gone sharply downhill after the new management(The Connor Group) took over.
There are a couple of positive things:
1. In my time here I have yet to see a cockroach (knock on wood). Though, according to a previous reviewer, this could soon be changing...
2. The few maintenance requests I have made have been taken care of in about 3 days - it could be worse. The one time I went into the office to request the maintenance, it took longer. I find the best technique is to call after hours and leave a message on their answering system with your problem and apartment number.
I think the negatives greatly outweigh the positives:
1. They try to scam us out of as much money as possible. There is a monthly charge for "common electricity" (street lights'), "common gas" (I have yet to figure out what this is for), "pest control" (a monthly fee for a service I have yet to use - they've gotta be making a lot of money off of this one), "trash", "sewer", and "water". My monthly fees have almost tripled since I first moved here.
When my lease started, Heartland Power Company, which collects these monthly fees, (and which is owned by the Connor Group), tried to charge me for an entire extra month of services from before my lease began. They were extremely uncooperative when I tried to contact them, so I contacted the Better Business Bureau. I would highly recommend this to anybody who has a problem - they took care of things for me right away.
2. Previous reviewers mentioned a homicide took place here a few weeks ago. I did see the police and crime scene tape all around, but have yet to hear what actually happened. Why' Because management hasn't said a word to the residents about it. The worst part is not that the homicide occurred here - I don't know the circumstances and this could happen anywhere. The worst part is that management has not kept the residents informed as to what is going on in the community.
This apartment is managed by a company that does not care about it's residents, scams as much money out of them as possible, and should not be in business. I wouldn't recommend moving here to anyone.
UPDATE:
This past month the monthly extra fees (collected by Heartland Power) went up to 150% of their previous value with no prior notice. I now pay twice as much in extra fees as I do for my own electricity. When I called Heartland they placed the blame on the apartment complex. When I talked to the apartment complex they placed the blame on Heartland. So I got nowhere.
I also now have a noisy neighbor so the noise level has increased significantly for me.
Also, the pool has yet look clean. And if I recall correctly it never really looked clean last year either.
One good thing - still no bug problems. qmzu4EHcaGAPVCPw2Fai

I used to live at Sloan Square and moved out in Summer '08. I was home the day the murder occurred, and saw all the police tape, police approaching people's doors with guns drawn, and the unfortunate man who was killed lying on the ground for hours. Like everyone else, I never found out what the circumstances were. I think it is a disgrace that mgmt didn't so much as post a sign telling tenants to be aware of their surroundings. I wish I had called a news station to at least bring attention to the occurrance and make mgmt be accountable for their property.

I currently live at Sloan Square and think this review is totally accurate. I have only been a resident for a couple of months but my experience has been extrememly frustrating so far. The bills are really high and when you try to talk to Heartland about them they won't help and instead instruct you to refer to your "Utility Agreement which you signed with your lease." I never signed such an agreement.
Speaking with the leasing office is excrutiating. They never have clear answers for you and they continuously make promises they don't intend to keep as far as wait times for maintenance requests, etc.
Again, I've only been here for a couple of months but I've had to call the office so many times for so many reasons I'm already looking into potentially breaking my lease. This has been a really disappointing experience.
