Not worth the expensive rent

I moved to Spalding Crossing back in March of 2008 and let me tell you, I really regret it. When I first moved in, the apartment was a complete mess, there was nasty hair and crud in the bathroom sinks and tubs, dust everywhere, there were spots in the carpets where the apartment complex tried to remove stains, but just ended up bleaching large circles here and there. It's like they didn't even bother to look the place over before handing over the keys.

After a month of living here, I had a two page list of complaints about the condition of my apartment and items that needed repair. The office ladies are very nice and said they would try and resolve all my complaints, but only about a third of my issues were actually dealt with. The maintenance men were great when I first moved here and would leave notes when they were in the apt letting you know what they did, but then they hired a new maintenance guy and he just makes excuses and doesn't fix anything properly. You never know if they came to fix a problem unless you go looking for signs that something has been done. You have to bug them two to three times to get stuff repaired. The cable lines inside the wall in the living room literally melted one day, I had Comcast come out 3 times to look into what was going on and they said it was the apartment's responsibility to repair wires inside the walls. Well I went to the office and asked them to fix it and they just tried to lay the blame on Comcast. It has been two months now and I still do not have working cable in my living room, I have a line running from the bedroom and across the floor just so I can watch my tv in the living room. I have complained to the office six or seven times now and the keep saying they will have someone out to fix it, but yet nothing is done.

The "security" gates are worthless and are always broken. I've been locked inside the complex on more than one occasion because the exit gate didn't work. When I called the emergency line to inform them of the issues, no one bothered to even come out that night to at least open the gate so cars could get out. I had to walk over to the gate entrance and use my card to open the entrance gate, then run back to my car and drive out before it closed. Crime in the area isn't too bad, but someone did manage to steal my 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle off my patio in the middle of the night. Of course there are no security cameras here so there is no telling who did it.

Like someone else posted, the max amount of time you will be able to have warm water in the shower is around 10 mins. I've adjusted the temp control on the water heater as high as it will go, but it didn't help much. Also the drains in the bathroom sinks and tubs do not drain very well. Water builds up two to three inches deep when taking a shower and the tub won't be empty for at least 5 mins after turning the water off. I've complained about this, but again nothing was fixed. The sinks are the same way, I can brush my teeth and by the time I'm finished the sink is almost over flowing with water. The only reason I bring this up is becuase it creates nasty rings of crud around the sides of the tub and sinks that has to be cleaned ever 3 days or so.

Be prepared to dust everything in your apartment at least 2 times a week, I've honestly never lived in a place anywhere nearly as dusty as this. I installed ceiling fans to keep the air circulating and it helped, but... The air filter on my AC unit will be fully clogged within 3 weeks of replacing it. Also be ready for high power bills, the windows are very poorly insulated, I can see light coming in from around the edges of the front door. Power bill in the summer averaged 165 dollars when keeping the AC at 75 degrees only when I was at home, it was turned off most of the time when I was at work. I have yet to turn the heater on this winter so my bill is about 95 dollars now. I have a 2 bed, 2 bath apartment.

Noise, I know to expect some noise since it is an apartment, but everyone feels it's necessary to have their car stereos turned up as loud and they will go at all hours of the night when they are coming or going.

Lawn crews start their leaf blowers as early as 6:30am once a week, it's really annoying, but the office won't do anything about it. The trash people wait until 10pm - 11pm to start throwing stuff in the dumpster and being that I'm right next to it, it wakes me up right when I've fallen asleep. Again, I've asked the office to have them start around 8pm, but nothing changed. It seems that the management is more concerned with keeping the outside and grounds clean rather than take care of their tenets issues and complaints, but hey they are completely renovating the leasing office right now, I'm so glad they have their priorities in the right order.

Also, the entire complex suffers from major power surges, so be ready for your lights to flash on and off almost everynight. This is another issue I brought up to management and thats when i was told that everyone in the complex has this problem. Yet another thing they will not fix.

I could keep going on and on about this place, but I'm moving out in March thank god. I'm 29 and a very laid back person that normally doesn't complain much, but I've had so many issues here it's not even funny. Good luck if you decide to move here.

I thought I was the only one whose power bill was high and windows broken. I have complained since the day I moved in about my windows having a draft. And now that it is winter and we run the heat at night, my power bill has gone up in the hundreds ...

which building you were in? I'm planning to move in sometime next month and I'll make sure to stay away from that building.

I don't know which side you guys live on... but I've NEVER had any of those problems...I think my only problem is paying HIGH RENT for a SMALL APT, that is THE ONLY REASON I'm moving. I love the area and location and the staff is always nice and helpful.
