I will not recommend or talk bad about Amli at Clairmont Apartment Complex. I will just write about my experience. Whether you choose to live here after, that is up to you. Whether you think that they add reviews to improve their rating, that is up to you. Pictures can be found at www.geocities.com/lbf20012001 if you just want to see the pictures but please do read below to get the full scope of my experience.
I moved from out of state to Amli at Clairmont in 2003. When I came to the complex I was shown a “model” of the unit that I would live in and I must admit, it was unbelievable. It looked like a dream apartment. The first day I moved in to my unit I realized that something was wrong. It looked nothing like “model” I was shown. There were numerous problems with the apartment. The carpets had very noticeable stains (yes plural), bent screens, light switch covers were cracked, air vent covers were cracked, towel rack was about to fall out of the wall, and the cabinets were old and peeling just to name a few. I was upset but had no choice at this point. Then I realized that the microwave that was included with the apartment was nowhere to be found. Then the first time it rained, which was during the first week, I noticed something else. The roof near my fireplace in my living room was leaking. The water was all over the wall in the corner and dripping on the carpet. It was apparent that this was the cause of one of the stains on the carpet and call me crazy, but I think the renter before me had the same problem. Anyway, I turned in a service request for the missing microwave and the leaking roof.
It took a while (close to a month) for them to get a microwave to me, which was rather odd since there are so many appliance stores around but I was patient. When they did get a microwave to me the service person told me that he broke the microwave glass plate and would get me another one soon. Months and months went by and then I got tired of waiting so I went to the office again and it took about another month before they decided to get me a next microwave.
The roof problem was even worse. After placing the service request I waited and I waited and I waited. Nothing. Literally nothing. You would think that a roof leak would be top priority but it did not seem so. Five months went by and my walls started turning brown from the water stains. I got so upset I sent a certified letter threatening to report them to the Dekalb Housing Authority. It finally seemed like someone was listening and finally it seems like the problem was taken care of. Yeah right. Actually, it did not rain for a while. When it started raining again there it went again. It started as what appeared to be a slow leak. In about a month, it was just as bad as when I moved in. Once again I went through the same thing short of sending a certified letter. The walls turned brown again and I periodically would go to the office to complain. It took months and months again. They finally came and did something. Was the problem fixed or patched. I don’t know because there was no rain for a while. But then when it started raining again it started again. Yes the “leak from hell” was back. The “leak from hell” was then followed by the “service from hell”. I complained about it in late March, the beginning of May (when I gave them my rent check) and the beginning of June (when I gave them my rent check). They kept taking my check and not doing anything about my roof leak. It was not until the end of June until the job was complete with the repainting of the wall. But you guessed it. It was not fixed. It started leaking again just as bad as it was 2 years ago when I first moved in. This time because it was fixed during the rainy season the problem reappeared in less than a week. To see the pictures of the leak go to www.geocities.com/lbf20012001. They were taken in early July. Other pictures of the water stains and what seems to be mold were added also. After all I have stated they thought that the service I received and the money I paid made it a fair deal. Don’t think so.
Besides these problems there were also other problems. Some of the problems were within managements control and others were not. The electric power there is unstable, the gate isn’t as secure as you might hope for a gated community. The management changes often, which is not good for customer service. I would report a problem to one person and I swear when I go back, almost every time the person I talked to would be gone and the dance would begin again. There is a transient area few blocks down the street.
My experience there was less than enjoyable. It’s a shame because with just a few changes it would actually be livable there. Not great but livable and that is all I ever wanted. I think I had been more than patient and pleasant even when I have been upset. My friends could not believe how much I was paying for my apartment. Many times I was too ashamed to have friends over because of the leaking roof and brown walls. And there was no way to convince any of my friends to move in. So much for the referral fee.
