This was by far the worst experience I have ever endured when living in an apartment.

After moving out, we were charged $720 for past due rent, clean up, and various other fees.

I'm well aware that most people commonly cry that they "didn't do that" or "it wasn't that bad." I won't even go down that road.

Lets, for the sake of this review, assume that all the damages were legit.

So how could Uptown screw this up'

First, we paid $225 in non-refundable deposits, none of which was applied to the damages claimed.

A $500 damage bond was also purchased, but management neglected to apply that as well.

After calling management 13 times and stopping by the office 3 times (each time I was told a manager was not there and I would be called back), I was never contacted.

However, I was contacted by a debt collection agency.

This is almost humorous.

Instead of mailing the bill to the forwarding address, which was provided to mgt, the geniuses decided to mail it to our address at uptown with full knowledge that we no longer resided there.

How could one receive notice' We also offered to have a walk-through when moving out, which management responded was not necessary.

We were also told 3 weeks after we moved out that our bill was paid in full.

Obviously, it was not.

In short, I would say the management is nothing less than moderately --------, inept, and infinitely incompetent.

Given the danger of parking your car in that area (mine was broken into), the quality of the building, and the quality of residents...

this place is a dump.

Residents allow their dogs to defecate in the hallway, make too much noise, and get a lower rent for their economic status.

This place is nothing short of the 5th ring of hell.

We've filed complaints with the better business bureau, contacted the Division management of Lane properties, and are currently contemplating the filing of civil actions against the management.

DO NOT LIVE HERE.

It's funny, I just posted a review right after you talking about the arbitrary charges. I even mentioned that maybe it was normal thing for this complex since assistant manager seemed so noncaring. After reading your review I guess it is a normal thing. I'm very busy in Maryland working on my doctorate, but contact me if you need any support in your reporting. aworddan@yahoo.com

I just moved out and am praying that I do not get slapped w/ arbitrary charges. However, as an atty practicing law in GA, unfortunately for Uptown Square, I am well aware of my rights. You did a good thing in contacting the Better Business Bureau. Also, to get the collection agency off your back, you should probably inform them that you are aware they may only contact you a certain times a month and thereafter you may sue them for harassment. You will probably not hear from them ever again. Also, if need be, I'll write a letter to Uptown Square noting my disagreement w/ any charges. They are req'd by GA law to provide you w/ a sheet listing any damages. And, you are under no obligation to sign. You may dispute any charges.
