Management is pretty shady

I lived in Uptown Square from 2006-2007. My experience wasn't that bad. Generally I had very few complaints, but I guess I just lucked out in the apartment I was assigned. I moved out the end of July 2007. In December 2007 I received a letter from a collections agency threating to report an out outstanding amount I owed to the credit agencies. I called the collection agency and asked what the charges were and where did they come from. They were actual very nice and well-mannered and said the charges were from Uptown Square, although the reasonings were unclear. Since my credit is a 760 I went ahead and paid it right then. I wondered why I didn't get a call or letter from Uptown themselves instead of going directly to collections. I called Uptown and was able to speak with the assistant manager. She said one of the charges was an arbitrary base rent charge, which she could not explain why it was charged to me. Another charge was one from the bathtub having stuff in it. The funny thing is that I had told them twice about the stuff in the tub before and maintence said it was grout from construction and there was no way to get it out. I'm an overly clean person who tilex's and lysol's everything, so you know I tried. Why did they still charge me for that when I moved out? Another one was a charge for scratches on the door. I was pretty baffled by that one. Again no explaination. The last one was an understandable but hefty charge for a spot in the carpet where someone spilled a chocolate martini and I could never get it out fully. The assistant manager I dealt with seemed to be noncaring and short about my questions. Maybe these calls are a common thing or maybe she was in rush to see another client waiting on her because their office is very busy. Either way when it comes to finacial issues she should have and could have been more helpful. I guess since they had their money they didn't care. I had posted a very positive review on this site about the complex and my experience before, but with this type of negligence I can not be in support. I had to take that one down and post this one. Although I'm not mad, I will not support an entity that is immoral in concepts that deal with people's money and credit. If they treat their responsible tennats this way, I don't want to know how they treat poeple that have sincere problems. Good luck if you decide to rent here.
