Run and Don't Look Back!!!

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2008
I must agree with the last user user. I have been here since November 2006 and cannot wait for my lease to end this summer. I was here for the renovations to the outside to the building and they replaced the all of the doors and repainted the outside. The jobs were done half ass. You can stand in front of the closed door on either side and see through. My gas bill is outrageous because I have to keep turning up the heat since the cold air streams right through the crack in the door.
The model that was shown to me prior to move in featured all black appliances and laminate flooring in the kitchen and bathroom that looked like hardwood. My apartment had none of that and a stove from like 1970. The only way that I was able to get an upgraded stove (note: I did not say new!) was to have the electric eye blow up in my face while I was trying to cook dinner and even then they just replaced the eye first and I had to complain before they got me a different stove.
After the new siding went up, someone had the bright idea to tear a hole in the back of the building (they said that one of the A/C units needed replacing. Well, the hole is still open (since before April 2007) and you can see exposed rusting pipes and I'm sure that animals have come and gone through as they please. Do you think you would want to live here when they don't even maintain the outside of the building'
As far as maintenance goes, they are very good. When I have had a request, it has always been handled promptly and professionally. I do have an exception to this - as one of the staff wrote my apartment number on a work order to do "repairs" that I did not need or ask for. This repair ended up with me having brown water for several days and I ended up needing a new water heater and furnace.
The staff is never available. I can call at anytime of day during business hours and get voicemail. Messages are never returned and now that we are going through the million dollar renovation and actually gutting the apartments, they want us to pay rent that is 50% higher than it is now. We are told that they want to bring in a higher end clientele, so us current residents get treated like trash. Now if I felt the renovation was worth the increase in rent, then I could understand, but the inside walls are still the same. The wiring is still the same. The closet space is decreased to "open" up the unit. I just can't wrap my mind around paying that much more in rent for just some better appliances and track lighting and everything else here remaining the same. Same hole in the side of the building, same shotty walls, less storage space, same construction crews taking up all of the parking spaces with their dumpsters and trailers. Yeah, I think I'll go somewhere that doesn't require so much work. This is one of those instances where if you choose an upgraded apartment, you won't get what you pay for. Take your hard earned money elsewhere where you can be happy to be at home.
