A good place to call home

I lived in the complex from March 2007 to April 2008. I had a very positive experience with the staff and maintenance team. Valerie was particularly helpful and a pleasure to work with. I absolutely loved the neighborhood. You cannot beat the proximity to Midtown, Virginia Highlands, and Piedmont Park. I work Downtown, and it was a straight shot down Monroe/Boulevard with an easy commute.
As with all in-town apartments, there were some car break-ins and theft during my stay there, but the complex communicated all incidents to the residents and advised us not to leave anything in the cars. I personally did not have any problems. To address the parking issues, I had to park on the street 3 times during my time due to lack of available parking. Often times there was not parking available in front of my stairwell to enter the building, but I usually could find it relatively nearby within the complex. There are two visitor parking spots, which makes it nearly impossible for visitors to park within the complex lot due to the volume of visitors and the lack of parking spaces available to accommodate them. While this was a slight annoyance, street parking was fairly convenient. Tow trucks are very common and make frequent rounds, so I would never advise any of my visitors to park in the lot without a parking pass especially overnight. So, yes there are some inconveniences related to the parking issues, but it certainly would not keep me from being a resident there.
As a single female, I was concerned about safety within the complex. My apartment was equipped with an intrusion alarm which gave me some piece of mind. I also lived on the third floor. They have a courtesy officer who usually parks his car in a conspicuous place near the front of the complex. He makes at least one round each night, I believe. They should add some more lights in between the buildings, however. I felt comfortable and secure at this complex and would recommend it to people in the same position.
The grounds are well-maintained, and the pool is a nice feature. I did not use the work-out facilities, as I joined a nearby gym and ran in the park. The gym onsite was not a draw, but I made other arrangements. The leasing office accepted UPS and FEDEX packages if you were not available, and pick-up was fairly easy during normal business hours. They have monthly resident appreciation events that seemed nice, but I did not attend any during my stay.
Ultimately, I enjoyed my 13 months in the community and would recommend it to anyone in their apartment search. While it was quite expensive (I had a 1BR, 750-square foot), my apartment did come with a washer/dryer, dishwasher, a garbage disposal, a nice balcony, and plenty of storage space. I think their rates are competitive for the amenities and the neighborhood, and I took advantage of one of their spring specials when I moved in.
I realize that many people who post comments on this site are frustrated with their experience in the apartment and use this space as a way to vent or warn others of their troubles. Although I can only attest to my personal experience, I believe this is a good place to live and encourage any prospective residents to stop by and see the complex.

Wow - thanks for your review. Very informative. I am also a single female looking to rent by myself and I'm glad to hear that you felt safe enough in this apt complex.
One question - how much was your rent? I am also looking at the 1BR, 750-square foot apartment and would like any info you could give. thanks!
