Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008

My fiancee and I stayed here for about a year from mid 2007 to mid 2008. We can't say enough how much we enjoyed living here. First, the location is priceless. Its location close to the Chattahoochee river offers some amazing scenery and makes it feel like you are living in a luxurious cabin. At the same time, it is not so secluded that you feel like you are miles away from civilization. Just a short drive away (or even a walk, if you are feeling energetic) are some amazing restaurants, a shopping mall, Costco, and a plethora of other amenities. A nice little bonus is that Walton has some partnerships with nearby businesses, often offering discounts on their services and food. The in-community amenities area also impressive. When we moved in, it was obvious that they were doing some work to really upgrade the facilities. The renovation process, itself, was a minor annoyance, but it was well worth it. The main clubhouse/office looks amazing, and adjoining this is a nice little coffee house that also offers free wi-fi. This also overlooks a sizable swimming pool on one side, and a nice set of tennis courts on the other side. Of course, you can also get a nice view of the river from the clubhouse. The fitness area has a good selection of exercise machines, and this was right across the way from the laundry facility.

Our apartment, itself, was also wonderful. We opted to stay towards the back of the complex, which definitely cut down on some of the highway noise. We never had any noise problems from neighbors. Our 2-bedroom/2-bathroom apartment had in-unit laundry, which was a great convenience. Its location in the back of our closet had its ups and downs. It was great that the laundry did not take up too much space and was slightly hidden from view. However, due to its location and set-up, you ran the risk of smacking yourself in the head when hanging clothes. Other than this, the only real complaint we had about the apartment was the kitchen, as this was not designed for people who love to cook. Counter and cabinet space is limited, so be prepared to purchase some additional kitchen carts/storage for your cooking needs (we had a microwave oven and several other kitchen gadgets situated in a kitchen cart out in the living/dining area). The hood over the stove does not have much power and does not lead out of the apartment, so you will likely be wiping grease and oil stains off the nearby cabinets and counters and suffering through a bit of smoke. We would have liked to have additional storage space close to the balcony (like many other apartments do). Aside from these little annoyances, our apartment was absolutely wonderful and spacious.

Finally, the staff was always very attentive. Maintenance requests were usually dealt with within about 48 hours. They would usually call to inform us if they could not get to it within the immediate 24 hours. The staff was also incredibly friendly and seemed to go out of their way to make sure that we were comfortable.

Walton on the Chattahoochee was the first time my fiancee and I lived together, and we have since moved to the Washington DC area (and prepare for a big jump in cost of living). However, we will always look back fondly at our time in Atlanta, and Walton definitely helped to make it an enjoyable time.
