Good apartment with some slight downsides

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2008

I'll use the typical pro-cons list...but some info. I'm currently residing at these apartments from Jan 2008-2009, and I have a 2-2 apartment. And I basically like these apartments, but it has some quirks:

Pros--
1. The inside is nice and clean
2. New kitchen in all apartments...good appliances (not major-brand name, but good enough), excellent cupboards...drawers need a little WD-40, but are good and plenty)
3. Walls have proven to not be paper-thin
4. Peaceful area, in terms of it being in a decent residential area (even though it's sandwiched between Wheeler and Wrightsboro)
5. Management is friendly and will contact you before and after any maintenance
6. Walk-in closets are nice, as they don't eat up a wall
7. Two accesses to porch (1 from living room, 1 from master bedroom)
8. Apartment is sizable enough. Master bedroom can fit a King bed and various other large furnitures, second bedrom can fit a Queen, a computer desk, bookshelves and a TV stand w/TV (and other small things).
9. Parking has never been an issue.
10. Safety is on the pro side (but it helps that the courtesy cop is parked right outside my apartment), but I haven't been here that much. Management says that they haven't had a problem for a while...but, that's management saying that.
11. Lots of windows=lots of natural light in both bedrooms (living room has the sliding door only if you're on the second floor...don't know about first floor apartments)
12. Different options (living by the pond, having a fireplace, both, or neither...I have neither)
13. A huge plus is that they have cable...if you have a big HD TV, and you want a DVR with that, and you want internet (assuming you use Comcast, because that's what you get with the rent), and you want the Sports package, you're only paying $55 out of your pocket. Of course, the rent is higher here because of this.
14. There's also a maid service you can do for free. I have not tried this, but essentially you can request a maid clean your place. The maid uses YOUR cleaning supplies, and you have to reserve the maid (there's only one).
15. And, the apartment has an arrangement with a dry cleaner so that the cleaner comes and picks up dry cleaning at the apartment's clubhouse. This is not free (you still have to pay for the dry cleaning), but it is an added convenience because you don't have to go out of your way to pick up your cleaning.
16. The grounds are nice...I regularly see people playing at the tennis courts, and there is a pond that would be nice to walk around during better weather.
17. The utility room is excellent. You can fit a dryer, washer, kitchen-sized trashcan, laundry basket, and shelving for a pantry and still have room to walk in. It's also off of the kitchen, and has a accordion door to separate it.
18. This place is extremely well placed, right in between Wheeler (and the Exchange) and Wrightsboro (the Mall). Several restaurants, stores, and other things are very close by, including Augusta State. Fort Gordon's Gate One is about 10 minutes away (down Jackson to Gordon Highway, take right).
19. The management has a number of different 'bonuses' they offer to newly-weds ($15 off), those who just had a kid, etc. They'll offer these without asking, but ask anyways.
20. Apartment is all electric...so no extra bills.

Cons--
1. While the inside looks nice, the outside of the apartment building doesn't. I would assume that's the management's next major upgrade.
2. If you live more towards the center of the complex, good on you. If you live close to Jackson Rd, it's fairly noisy. The good things is that there are options to not have a pond view (a pond view is more expensive, of course) and still not be on Jackson.
3. While walls keep the noises down, the doors are thin and hollow.
4. Random things--there are no hand towel hangers in either bathroom, and it appears that in my apartment that only rudimentary repair work had been done on some of the damage to a wall and door caused by another door hitting them. Small things, but that was a first impression.
5. The water pressure in the shower is fine, but the toilet water goes down slowly, but not slowly enough that you really have to worry about it. The maitenance guy said this is a problem throughout the complex. Flush twice.
6. The only real major problem is this: My apartment building has 8 apartments, which is fine, but all the floors in this building are creaky. Since I live on the top floor, this probably drives the downstairs neighbors bonkers, but I can even here next door neighbors' floors on occassion. Keep this in mind.
7. Some windows are not designed to be opened.
8. Rent is a little steep when compared to other places. Rent is, without fireplace or pond view, $825. But--keep in mind that includes cable ($60-70), maid service (if requested), and easier dry cleaning pickup (and don't forget those bonuses).
9. No ceiling fans, but that's relatively rare here.
10. The dining room, which is conjoining the living room, is not really big enough for a table for four (including chairs) unless you put it against the wall (otherwise, it'll block the kitchen entrance). If you have a round table and desire symmetry, you might want to measure before you sign the lease.
11. It might be Sprint, but phone reception is better after you leave the apartment. Still, I have not dropped any calls, but I might be on 1 bar.
