Readers, below you will find a copy of my complaint letter to Preston Hills.

Consider this my formal complaint about your apartment complex's customer service towards its renters. I am VERY disappointed with current events. Let me explain.

My first, and least important complaint has to do with the 'renter's appreciation' night at TGI Fridays the 2nd Tuesday in January. My roommate and I attended this, only to find out that Friday's had NO CLUE about what we were talking about when we told them of the Preston Hills night. It was embarrassing, and a waste of my time.

Secondly, tonight, I came home and entered my number into the visitor keypad. Usually, this number calls my cell phone, but tonight, it called someone else's house! My gate code had been changed and I had no choice but to sneak in behind another car who tried to make the mechanical arm fall on my car by applying their brakes, then shot a bird at me!!

The real issue began back in December. I attended a renewal party because my lease was near completion. At this party, I spoke with one of your managers and told her that we were in the process of building a house and would be moving out soon. I told her that we could go ahead and make the move out date February 6, 2004, signed a non-renewal notice, and said I would notify Preston Hills if I needed to change this date. Well, I called and changed the date in January to April 6, 2004. Apparently, whoever I spoke with neglected to note this, or tell me that I should come fill out another non-renewal notice.

The first thing that alerted me that Preston Hills had not noted my move-out date change was a call from UPS. An employee of Preston Hills told them that we had moved, so they did not leave our package at the front office. This was an inconvenience, because the package was a Valentine's gift, and since it was not delivered, it was not able to be given on Valentine's Day.

The paper notice we received came in the form of a LETTER TAPED TO THE DOOR. The letter was a friendly reminder to notify Preston Hills of our moving situation. At this point, I called, spoke with the front desk, and let her know that our change in move out date should be April 6, 2004. She said that she would notify the manager of this. AT NO POINT did she mention that she is not allowed to accept this notice verbally over the phone. (I was not aware that this was against policy until sitting down with my lease and re-reading it tonight).

Today, David came in to borrow a mailbox key because his had been misplaced. He also mentioned our moving change to a lady in the office who proceeded to tell him of the HUGE jump in price we would have to pay for going month to month with our rent, which would be market value of about $870 plus an extra $150 each month.

This infuriates me. Over the course of this whole thing (about 3 months), we have NEVER been told of this policy. In the lease we signed at move-in, it SPECIFICALLY states that 'Management shall have the right to increase the rent due by giving 30 days written notice prior to the end of the initial term or any subsequent renewal period.' This notice was not given, so on March 1, I will be paying our usual $700 rent.

I am saddened that our relationship has to be so heated in the last months of our residency. In the past year of our stay, I have been very pleased with Preston Hills, and have recommended it to many of my friends, two of whom just moved in to apartment 904. I assume now, that I was only happy with this apartment complex because I did not have to deal with the 'policies' of Preston Hills.

Also, for those that are reading, 4 months or so ago, they tried to fine us $150 for leaving our trash outside our door for 2 HOURS!!! We couldn't leave right at that moment to take it, and if we left it inside, our cats would demolish it.
