This in not the apartment your looking for

ok... now where to start..
i guess I'll go with the first night.
first day i move in, mid January (not a normal time) so i wasn't expecting the place to be freshly cleaned.
what i didn't expect, is pizza boxes in the oven that had been there since before the christmas break, and so over grown with mold that the boxes were actually wet from their respiration. literally green pizza and falling apart boxes.
not only that there is a big box of crap in my room (from a guy they had living there for a few months b/c he set his apartment on fire), cigar butts in my dresser and trash on the floor. obviously they had made no attempt to clean or even make sure the room or apartment was clean before shoving me in there. the box of stuff ended up sitting in the living room for a week before i finally had to go get maintenance to remove it.
ok.. so that was first day.. moving on to first night
i left the front door unlocked, as i've lived in carrollton for 5 years, and only ever lock it when i'm going out of town, and have never had any problems until now. well my roommate wakes up in the middle of the night b/c he hears something, gets up and locks the front door. when we get up in the morning we discover the tv is unplugged from the wall and the cable jack and the cords wrapped around the front like somebody was getting ready to steal it.
that was the first time somebody broke into our apartment
the 2nd time i had somebody try to climb in my bedroom window (1st floor)
i woke up when they knocked over the herb box i had on my window sill (what can i say i love cooking) but by the time i made it out the front door, they were gone
i bring up the cooking for another reason though. the maintenance is HORRIBLE, and i can't overstate that enough. our microwave was broken for almost 3 months. about 1 month into it the maintenance guy came to take a look at it, said something to the effects of it was toast and he'd have to take it to the shop, but i walk back out my room 5 minutes later and its still sitting on the counter right were i left it. keep in mind these are $30 microwaves and would be easily replaced. they took so long getting us a new one i picked up the one i had in my dorm room from my mom's house when i went home for thanksgiving. in all I'd say 7-8 maintenance request were required in order to fix the microwave.
now during this same time, our stove broke, though luckily it only took them 2 months and another 7-8 requests to get that fixed. this time i picked up a toaster oven from my dad's while i was visiting over christmas break.
so for a good month or so the only things we had to cook with were a 70's microwave and a yard sale toaster oven.
now despite what anybody reading this might think, it wasn't all bad. The rooms, bathrooms and closets are probably the biggest you'll find in any college apartment in town. although the "furniture" is absolute crap. The dresser drawers are maybe 5in deep, you'll be lucky if you can stack 2 pair of jeans in there. The desks are equally lacking, can't fit much more then some pens and a stack of index cards in there. the headboard is in no way what so ever attached to the bed. the mattress is nice though.
moving out to the living room. the table and chairs are very awkward, as is the whole layout, makes it very difficult to find a good set up for everything.
as for the amenities. the gym is decent, they do have a tanning bed, never used it though. and as stated before the pool WAS a lot of fun, for a while. then a new manager took over and seemed to kill everything but the bacteria growing in it. all the side gates were locked, meaning you had to enter threw the clubhouse, and sign guests in, not only that you needed to have your gate card (which most people myself included left in their cars). this also meant that if you wanted to use the volleyball court (which is nice) you had to walk threw the clubhouse and all the way around the pool to get there (a good 200yards) where as before you could just walk out of the gate at the far end of the pool and it was about 20 yards. the first summer i lived there we were at the pool at least 3-5 days a week. the second year with the new management i would doubt we were there more then 5 times total. the final kicker was on memorial day weekend when it was closed by the HEALTH DEPARTMENT, first time i've ever even heard about the health department shutting down a swimming pool, we ended up across the street at the much smaller, but open river place pool.
last but no certainly not least is the office. all the other bull ---- i was able to tolerate for the location and nice room size. but the office is run by children. I (a non-smoker) at one point got charged for cigarette butts in the breeze way, and another charge that they couldn't even tell me what it was. When i went to the office and asked their answer was "probibly electric overages" and said i should just pay and they'll call me when they figure it out.
The GM Adrian just graduated from UWG and i'm assuming was cheap to employ, only reason i can think of as to why he is still there. He is the single rudest and most unhelpful manager you could possibly deal with. he even went as far as trying to tack on cleaning charges after i moved out, despite me having an "ok" on my move out slip. when i went to the office to show them the slip, all he said was that a manager did not check me out, so it doesn't matter what was on the slip, and upon his inspection (which he did personally a day later when my roommate moved out) that the apartment was not clean enough. keep in mind here we had spent 3 hours cleaning, not to mention the condition the place was in when i moved in. when i asked why a manager wasn't around to do the move out slip he could not give me an answer and just stated that he couldn't do anything. So i had to resort to calling the cooperate office, which only took about 2hrs to return my phone call. (at least they called back this time, as they hadn't the other 3 times i tried to contact them to make complaints about the stove and pool stuff) the lady from the corporate office told me that she was in fact at the grove and looking at my move out sheet, and realizing the legality of Adrian's move, decided to tell me that some sort of mistake had been made, like they put the fines on the wrong acct by accident. At this point i didn't bother telling her that the fines were done on purpose simply because the manger did not like me and my roommate.
All this is after they lost my paperwork from when i renewed my lease the first summer, saying that if i payed all my bills on time i'd get a free months rent. well of course when that time came around, with all the bills payed on time, they couldn't seem to find the sheet saying i renewed during their little deal. how very odd. I am not the only one they tried to hose, as i have talked to at least 3 other people they were trying to scam out of their free month. And to top it all off we were given 1 week notice to move out. The contracts are only 11.5 months, the first year they end at the end of July, but the next year they end in the middle of July, something they don't bother to point out when renewing. Lucky for me they decided to give the week notice the same day a regional manager was in, and i got to talk to him about it, of course during the meeting though Adrian lied and said phone calls were made 2 weeks earlier, which of course they weren't. When i called him out on this, saying that neither me or my roommate had gotten calls, he stated that he checked and our apartment was actually the first to get called. Why you would start with the 200 building and not the 100 is beyond me though.
so to sum it all up. the apartments are decent, big rooms and closets, living room layout sucks as does the furnished furniture. The amenities are nice when and if you can access them, but the management will make you want to punch a baby. and the buildings themselves are built on a swamp, i know as i was living across the street when they were building them.
