outrageous rent increases

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
equityapartments.com lists our floor plan for rent for approx $900-950 and indeed we started at $949 a year and a half ago. after a year our rent got raised to $987, and now a mere 7 months later they want to raise our rent for a third term to $1047. An increase of nearly $100, or over 10%, in just a year and half. This is both outrageous to me personally, and more objectively, an asinine business practice. No properly run business would risk less income, or possibly none, if the new tenants prove unreliable, rather than keep current promptly paying customers happy especially when they are already paying somewhat more than the rate for brand new tenants. Thanks though, otherwise I wouldn't have found apartments in another zip, just 6 or 7 miles further out, where for the same money as we originally paid, we will get an extra bathroom and 20-25% more square feet in general.
