I'll start with the positives.
This was my first time in a loft appartment, and I found it enchanting ... and living in a renovated mill is definately something you don't get to do in any city. Very large living spaces, high ceilings and for a very reasonable price. I found management curtious, never had any issues with repairs. Most of my neighbors were cool. Great community for pet owners and good access to the River Walk and downtown.

What's wrong with the community could be summed up in just one word: Security. Basically, there is none. Oh sure, there are gates, even security guards (I have yet to actually meet one), but the gates are often stuck open and when you scan in, they stay open for so long that 4 or 5 vehicles could piggy back in behind you. In fact, in one of the entrances, 0FTEN people will just sit in their vehicles in the parking lot, waiting for someone else to scan in and then follow them in. The fences around the community are too low to stop anyone and are breached in several locations, so anyone can just walk in - and they do. Was hit up for cash by a vagrant not long ago. JML is NOT in a good neighborhood, so decent security is really necessary! Also, there is a real problem with people not cleaning up after their pets. Feces litter some of the indoor areas, and most of the grassy areas outside are no go zones unless you're watching every step. I own a dog myself and have never understood why people would leave a pile of feces in a public area. Plain disgusting. I definately think management could do more to curtail this kind of behavior. The cleanliness of some of the indoor areas is a big issue also. One of the stairwells I don't think has seen soap in 20 years and the smell is revolting. Even a once over of all public areas 1 or 2 times a year would be sufficient.

JML could really shine if management would just step up to the plate on a few core issues. But until they do, I wouldn't recommend this place for everyone unless they need to be close to downtown and can take care of themselves.
