The area around FT Benning, has a lot of ??ghetto?? areas, places that I just don??t want to be associated with, being in the military, my family and I deserve better. When we first PCSed here, we found a small complex (lock wood apartments) that seemed nice enough on the weekend when we visited it, then we were in for a surprise when we moved in. We would walk out our door in the morning in uniform, and there would be teens out in the breeze way smoking pot, and that smell would get into your uniform, which is not a good thing being in the armed services. We heard of Whisper woods from a co worked who lived there, and went to check it out, the grounds are beautiful, and the staff is courteous and friendly. They offer a military discount on your rent, and they have apartment hoes that have garages if you need that kind of space. The only problem that I have had with them is maintenance. I had to call a total of 16 times (no joke) over a span of just over a year. I called to have a light fixture replaced prior to me being deployed, it was never fixed, and the last appointment I made for them to fix it was after I deployed. I came home on mid tour and it was still not fixed, and continued calling, then yet again I came home at the end of my tour and it was still unfinished! I was so upset about this that they did offer me a free carpet cleaning, and finally fixed it (I had to take leave to be there). One other problem that I don??t like is that when you are moving out there are a lot of things you have to do that they didn??t tell you when moving in, like having your carpet cleaned, a ultra red scan on your carpet (if you have pets) and very strict on returning your security deposit. But all in all I was happy there and am only moving because my husband and I are buying a home.
