I lived at Avery Glen for two years. I really enjoyed it. The good: cable and internet are included in rent, you can walk everywhere in decatur, 10 minute drive to the middle of downtown, security alarm, and cop patrols.

The bad: the apartments are kind of old, my carpet was gross and old, the staff was often unresponsive, and watch out for them cheating you on your moveout inspection. The people who work in the office (with a few exceptions) are pretty rude and inept. I only called them when something went wrong-- maybe 5 times in 2 years and they took there sweet time fixing it.

The noise from the agnes scott students didn't bother me except when they moved in/out in september and may. And I lived in the front and I quickly learned to live with the train noise.

Overall it's a good deal in a convienent location. Just make sure you get a large concession, and that you take pictures of the damage to the apartment when you move in. They will cheat you!

As far as safety I never felt unsafe, but the gate at the front was constantly broken, and i know of at least one stolen car while I lived there.

I lived at Avery Glen from 2006-2008 and echo the same appreciation for the water, cable tv, and cable internet being included with the rent. I had a concession on my rent for my 1br apt. After every renewal, the rent went up $10-$20, but never reached the market rate thankfully. When I moved out, I didn't have a problem getting my security deposit back. I simply left the keys and keycard in the office's mail slot and a couple weeks later received a check in the mail for my full deposit back (I think someone from the leasing office called for my new address). So perhaps I lucked out, especially since I wasn't present for any move-out inspection that the office or maintenance staff did. The apartments are by no means luxurious like a Post or Gables property with few amenities (lacking a club house or fitness room or car care area). But the rent was very affordable for the area...I would accept fewer amenities for affordable rent.
