I am a Hurricane Katrina evacuee who lost all of my worldly possessions in New Orleans.Upon arriving here in Georgia with my two kids and husband, quite dazed at the destruction of my home town. My family and I were just wondering around not knowing where to go or whom to seek help from. I stopped at a local gas station in Douglasville for gas and food for my kids. As I was standing in line I just burst into tears and the woman in front of me turned and asked "are you ok" and I thought 'is she nuts' I just lost everything I had and no idea where the rest of my family was, but how would she know this...she was just a stranger without a clue.
That woman turned out to be an angel. I told her what had happened, I dont know why, and she started to cry too. She asked if my family had eaten yet and I told her we had not. She invited us to her home, you hear me, strangers to her HOME. That woman turned out to be the property Manager of Millwood apts. She helped me get an apartment, coordinated for me to recieve food and furniture and somehow located my other family members in Texas who also live here. We now occupy 6 beautiful, clean, safe affordable, spacious units here and we are not leaving. If all Georgia people are this kind and gracious, why should we, we love it here and the only thing wrong here is Ms. Regina can't make gumbo....yet.
