My wife and I moved into these apartments about 4 months ago. We've been extremely satisfied with our decision. As far as this area goes (Norcross/Duluth), this complex is the creme de la creme. You simply can't beat the quality of these apartments for the price that you pay. Most complexes of this quality are going for $200-300 more on average.
When I first found Chatelaine, I thought it looked fantastic. I'd been apartment searching for months since my girlfriend and I were planning on getting married soon. I'm extremely paranoid about safety, and it was of utmost importance to find a clean, safe complex - I don't want my wife's safety to be in danger every time she takes the dog out. As far as apartments go, Chatelaine is about as safe as it gets. It's well lit, with respectful tenants.
The buildings themselves seem to be made from quality materials. We never hear our neighbors through the walls or floor/ceiling. The only noise we occassionally hear comes from the breezeway - but honestly, we only notice it because it alerts our dog. Otherwise, we wouldn't even pick up on it.
The staff is very friendly. One afternoon, I had to call in a problem with our kitchen sink. I made the call on my way home from work. I got home, and had barely sat down on the couch before a knock came on the door - the maintenance staff was already there to fix it. Total time from call to fix was about an hour.
The grounds are very well kept. This complex really is taken are of extremely well. As another reviewer mentioned, the gates are occassionally broken by some idiot - but they're generally fixed promptly (within a few days, if not the same day).
Parking is hit or miss depending on your building. Some buildings really do have packed lots, while others have spots to spare.
Our apartment itself has been a joy to live in. My wife had never lived in an apartment before, and I hadn't lived in one since I was a child. But we've both enjoyed our apartment and have no complaints. The bathrooms and closets are spacious, and the apartments have nice touches that improve their quality. You're not living in a white box in this place.
The complex has a reasonable pet policy. Pets are welcome with a $500 non-refundable deposit. The complex information says that dogs are limited to 50 pounds, but I've seen plenty of pet owners with much larger dogs.
The complex also comes with a modest gym, pool, tennis court, 'nature trail' and playground. Yes, the tennis court actually is functional - it has a net and the court is in good condition. That right there should tell you this is a good complex - tennis courts are usually one of the first things to fall by the wayside in poorly managed complexes.
Chatelaine is a good quality complex with a great price. If you move in at the right time, you can get a nice 2 bed / 2 bath apartment for 800 a month (Prices are a bit higher at the moment...that's the cost of moving in the summer). You can't beat that. The area is great as well...the immediate surrounding area isn't overly developed, and Discover Mills is right around the corner. We love it. The convention center is nearby, but we haven't run into any traffic problems because of it.
All in all, I definitely would recommend Chatelaine Park to people on a modest budget. You really can't do better than Chatelaine for the price that you pay. You may be able to find a nicer complex, but you're going to be paying a lot more.

My review is so lengthy because I feel that the 40% rating is bunk. People are way more likely to take the time to make a review if they have a terrible experience than they are if they were content with it. In my opinion, a few whiners with unrealistic expectations ruined the rating of this complex.
When my wife and I were dating, I spent nearly a year looking at complexes. This one was by far my favorite for the price, and now that we've been here for six months, I couldn't be happier. After I visited the complex, I read the reviews and couldn't believe it. Compared with what I saw from other complexes first hand, I decided to take the chance here anyway.
Personally, I have no idea where all these lousy reviews came from. We've had zero problems.
One addition I'll make to my last post - I've noticed about a dozen roaches the last few weeks on the first floor. It's not a problem for us, since we're on the third. But I imagine the people on the first floor may be getting some in their home. Since we're not having a problem in our unit, it doesn't effect my opinion of the complex. But if we were, it would significantly affect the rating I gave - I HATE roaches.
My advice? Get a third floor apartment. It's safer, and you're not going to nearly as many bugs as people on the first. In the six months in our unit, I think we've killed one small spider and some other small bug.
I stand by my review as a tenant. This has absolutely been my experience. I recommend this complex to anyone that's apartment hunting.

Over the summer I visited the sister complex Merritt at Satellite Place, and loved it. I'm sure if this place is anything like that, I'd love it here. I'm planning a visit this weekend.

I agree this is a wonderful place to live. I'm a new resident and do not hide behind nothing but the truth. Being a prior homeowner it was scaring moving to another state into an apartment home...yet I'm satisfied with my decision to come into the Chatelaine Community. There's many perks to living in this community and the fireplace and patio is not it. I personally like to do my research and let the last word in my decision be mine. People give too much of their control away. If you're interested come by, look an apartment ask a resident. The best advice you can give a person is to tell them to find out on their own!!!! Your perception is exactly that your perception!!!
