Don't DO IT!!

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2008

I lived at Madison Square for three years. I moved out in August 2008. The first two years were great! No problems at all. My roommate and I felt safe there, we had no issues with neighbors, and no problems with management. HOWEVER, over the last year we were there it was awful.
In regards to a comment another made about it being "ghetto", she is absolutely right. It seemed as if the policies regarding income that we were subject to when we moved in were thrown to the wayside. And I will agree with her when I say that ghetto has no color. I saw people of all shapes, color, size..whatever doing stuff they wouldn't if they gave a crap about the community they lived in. Just as an example I had the pleasure of getting on the elevator one morning after a HUMAN had urinated all over the walls and floor and smeared it all over the doors...you could see the streak marks and the smell was revolting.
One incident involved my neighbor below me. It was a weeknight and they were clearly having a party. My roommate and I were both woken up. We stomped on the floor a few times to let them know we weren't happy and two of the guys came and began POUNDING on our door, demanding that we open it. Needless to say we were terrified and had to call the cops. Now heres the fun part...Because of all the gates and security I had to LEAVE MY APARTMENT TO GO DOWNSTAIRS TO LET THE COPS IN!!
I also had a serious mold problem in my apartment and while it was fixed fairly promptly I did not feel like the regular maintenance staff was qualified to handle the situation. Mold can be VERY dangerous and damaging to clothing and furniture and I had to instruct them to seal off the bathroom from my bedroom and closet before they started b/c the clearly had no intentions of doing so.
The parking deck is also a nightmare...too many speedbumps and no enough spots. Again, this only became a problem in the last year I was there. I would come home from work around 12:30pm and there would be no spots available so I would have to park on the very top "visitors" deck. The only way down from there is the stairwell and it's just not a place I want to be after dark. One night I walked around on my level and found 6 cars parked without permits and nothing was done. However my roommates car was towed after she accidentally parked in one of the spaces reserved for the condo owners. Ridiculous.
Car break-ins were also a serious problem in the parking decks.
The pet problem was bad as well. I also had people that let their pets do their business in the hallway and elevator. I understand if your dog didn't make it, but that's not an excuse to leave it there.
A few short months after we moved out a man was shot and killed in a robbery attempt. There was never a connection made(that I read about) between the victim and assailant so this was a random crime.
I'm glad I got out and would not recommend it at this point in time.
