Not bad but not great either

I've lived here for almost a year now. I will not be renewing my lease, however, as I will explain later. First:

The Good - these apartments are cheap for this market so in terms of space, you get more for your money here. It's a quiet community and I've never had any real problems with neighbors, loud noise, or crime. In fact, everyone here is very friendly, including the management staff (now anyway). The grounds are pretty clean also. I have two kids and haven't had any worries about them playing outside with other neighborhood kids. Plus I've had deer in my backyard and there's a neighborhood trio of groundhogs that also live outside my apartment - they're so cute!

The Un-Good - these apartments were built in the 1970s and it shows. Not only are the exteriors not aesthetically pleasing, the insides need some major upgrades as well. Old cabinets and fixtures, old lighting fistures, old plumbing. I had a long on-going issue with a roof leak in my apartment that was a nightmare to get fixed (although I give management some credit for trying - but it shouldn't have taken the better part of a month). The wiring inside my apartment is worn out so everything had to be hooked up through an outside wall and all of my electronics have to be stored in my living room - frustrating since I got a 3 BR for a home office that I can't use now. Plus the only cable/internet service is Charter whom I loathe and despise. The windows are drafty and my electricity bills went through the roof during the winter. The complex lacks any amenities outside the pool (nice but small).

Ultimately I decided to upgrade to something much more modern with more amenities for both myself and my kids. I'll pay more for less space, but it's a compromise I'm willing to make. I would say these apartments are worth checking out, especially if cost is an issue for you (which is was for me when I moved in) but just be aware of what you could be getting into.
