Leaky Roof and Identity Theft!!

From: -Anonymous-
Date posted: 10/22/2004
Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2003

I lived there for 14 months and my experience was dreadful!! First, I had a leaky roof in multiple places in my living room and in one place in my bedroom (I awoke to water dripping on my face... UGH!!) Maintenance visited my apartment on several different occasions (supposedly along with a roof specialist) to fix the problem, but the result was the same every time... no luck. They finally just painted over the ugly water stains and left it at that.

Some 6 months into my lease, I noticed that I wasn't receiving all of my mail. I also noticed that the master mailbox lock was broken (the one box that, when opened, gives you access to ALL the boxes there). I mentioned it to the office, and then to the postal lady, but they were both very slow to get it fixed. By the time I realized what was really going on, it was too late. Someone had been repeatedly breaking into the mailboxes and as a result, this criminal obtained access to my person information -- my SS#, checking account #, and my new credit card w/pin# (mind you that the pin # was sent in a separate mailing a week apart from the actual credit card, and this thief got both!! They were REPEATEDLY breaking into these mailboxes, and thanks to the office staff's slow manner of correcting the problem, I have been going through an identity theft case for the past year plus with countless fraudulent accounts opened in my name.) Never live in an apartment that has the mailboxes located outside of the entrance gate, where anybody and everybody has access to it!!

When it finally came time for me to move out, I was so happy!! But to my dismay, when I turned in my notice to vacate, there was a little problem. Apparently, the agent who typed up my lease papers was lacking in capacity and unfortunately couldn't count to 13 --- I signed my lease for 13 months, which it clearly states on my welcome letter, but when transferring the information to the final contract, she typed January (14 months) instead of December (13 months). When I showed the office manager my welcome letter to prove that the lease was supposed to be typed up for 13 months, not 14, she had little regard for my situation and simply said, "what's on the final lease contract is what goes." I was furious that I had to suffer yet another month at that dreadful place due to a careless mistake on THEIR part!! Always go over your lease with a fine-tooth comb before siging it... give no one the benefit of the doubt, and dare not just assume that your leasing agent will be able to count!!

One last thing, if you want to speak with a leasing agent, don't bother phoning them because they NEVER answer it... it always goes to the answering service.

STAY AWAY!!
