The best apartment living around, but far from perfect.

I've lived at AMLI at Barrett Walk for two years now. When our lease was up a year ago we looked for a new place to live, because we wanted more space for the money, but we couldn't find anything better in the area. As far as apartments go I'd say AMLI is the best around, but I wouldn't say it's perfect.
I'll start off with the bad. As far as apartment living goes, it seems you always have at least one loud neighbor at a time no matter where you live. AMLI is no different. Noisy neighbors come and go and you pretty much have to deal with it. Usually complaining to the staff makes the noise worse. People are so vindictive. We had one bout with ants last summer, but AMLI had an exterminator come out the same day and after the that no more problems with ants. The oven doesn't cook food evenly. The dryer exhaust is over our patio so any lint the lint catcher misses ends up all over the patio. If you live on the very bottom floor, (below ground level) the rent for a one bedroom at 650 sq. ft. is over $700/month. There is also no cell phone signal down here for Verizon, AT&T, or Sprint unless you stand by the windows for in the bedroom or the back door in the living room for your entire conversation. The only plus to living on this floor is the rent is the cheapest down here and the entire apartment stays cool in the summer saving you a whole lot on your energy bill. In the winter the apartment is still very cold, so you tend to spend a bit more in the winter. There is a serious lack of storage, but we hung a lot of shelves which fixed that problem. The carpet is terrible! It's itchy dingy beige wool. There is no divider where the carpet ends and the linoleum begins in the kitchen and bath room, so I occasionally step on a carpet tack.
The good. The staff is usually very friendly and helpful. The pool is almost always clean and not too crowded. The other residents are friendly and you feel rather safe here, although there have been some cars broken into in the parking lot. I think that happens at all apartment complexes, but I could be wrong. The other common areas such as the mailboxes and garbage area are generally clean and fresh smelling. The appliances and countertops are modern and nice looking. There is a washer and dryer in our unit that is included in the rent. The rooms have crown moulding which helps make the place feel more home-like and less apartment like. The bedroom has a large closet, but a smaller bedroom. Our queen size bed and small chest of draws barely fit in the room. They let you paint the walls as long as you put primer over them before you move out. We are moving to another state in September, so we'll see how that deal holds up. The two reasons we rented this apartment over any other was the home like feel of the floor plan and the large bathroom. It's huge with a big garden tub! The light fixtures are also provide nice modern lighting unlike the usual row of uncovered bulbs over most apartment bathroom mirrors. Oh and the location! My husband and I are able to walk to everything which really saves on gas and provides much entertainment. Super Target is right across the street which in and of itself is all you could need for emergency cups of sugar gallons of milk or even a wedding present. The movie theatre is within walking distance a ton of home stores and clothing stores and restaurants are all a few blocks away. The mall and Publix are both about a mile away which is walkable if you like to walk like us. Seriously everything you could ever need is just around the corner.
