The armpit of the world

My wife and I have moved into Alta Green apartments on Shiloh Road in Kennesaw, Ga. We have been here for five months now. I have been making complaints for about four months about the same problems. I am extremely disappointed at the way things are being run here. Nothing is the way that the sales people or managers said that it would be before we moved in. I have spoken to the managers here and nothing has been done about all of the problems. I actually had two of the employees laugh at me when I came back to them numerous times about a problem.

Before we moved in Ghandi Hill informed us that all of the facilities would be open twenty-four hours. (One of the main reasons we chose this apartment complex over many others.) This was important to us because we work third shift and sleep during the day. Not long after we had moved in someone broke into the rec room, stole the dvd player, broke the pool sticks, and stole the money out of the coke machines. First, they said that it was an outside job and that coke machines all up and down the road that we live on had been broken into. But....the perpetrators had not broken the door to get in, they used a card key. And, the same night there was a big party going on outside of the pool area and in front of one of the apartments. My wife was going out and saw a big bunch of college kids outside drinking beer and saw a car full of 5 guys let 2 more cars in through the gate. So then, the management closed all of the facilities after 12. My wife and I do laundry and work out after that time. So we have not been able to use the facilities hardly at all.

Then...the card keys stopped working. My laundry got locked in the laundry room and I had to have someone retrieve it..twice. They had to leave all the gates open because all of the cards weren?t working. The apartment complex has been completely open to whoever wants to enter it since July. My wife and I feel completely unsafe. Not only from the people who live here (since they go around breaking into things), but from all of their friends who can come in and out as they please. We were also told that the office would know when and where someone uses their card keys. Shouldn?t they, then, be able to know who broke in'

We were told that this complex would have highspeed internet access available by June. We told them that we could not wait much longer than that because we have an internet based business. They said, "No, No, it will definately be ready by then." We have been losing money since we moved here because they still do not have highspeed internet access even now.

We were, also, told that our dogs were to be on leashes and that we were supposed to pick up after them. My wife and I are just about the only ones who follow this policy. People have their dogs running around without leashes all of the time. We have had dogs run right up to us and start jumping up and down trying to get up at our dog, whom we had to pick up because she is very protective. One gentleman wouldn?t even call his dog off or come get it, so I had to carry my dog back upstairs and wait for them to take their dog back inside. That is ridiculous! And almost no one will clean up after their dogs, except us.

People park over more than one parking place all of the time. Their are several people who park over the same two parking spaces every single night. We have told the office this, but there is nothing they have done about it. I have to park my vehicle across the parking lot near a different building and walk down, because there isn?t enough room.

Street lights are out, garbage is on some of the porches and in front of the doors, and people leave bikes under the stairs.

This is unbelievable. We are counting down the days until our lease is up. We have asked about breaking the lease after the first month and after complaining frequently about all of the problems and they told us that it would cost us approxipately over $4000. That is $4000 after only living here less than two months! We are paying luxury apartment prices and living in the projects. Nothing is the way that it was said to be. We moved into this complex for certain reasons and now we are very unhappy. These are rules that the complex set up that are being broken, not something that I am making up. The management has broken the written and verbal agreement that was signed when I moved in. And, now, they are telling me that I am going to have to come up with a lot of extra money just to get out of here.

I just want my family to feel safe. My wife will not even walk the dog after dark because she is a small woman who wouldn?t be able to handle someone else?s dog if it ran up to her. We can?t go to the gym during the day because we don?t have a 9am-5pm schedule. We are and have been extremely unhappy and we would like to know what you can do to help us get out of here or possibly transfering the balance of our lease to one of your other properties that is run better, since we are not the ones breaking all of the rules in the contract.

I appreciate hearing back from you soon. I feel like corporate action is nessasary since it is obvious that the management staff on the local level doesn?t seem willing or able to handle this. They have told me to call the courtesy officer with problems and he doesn?t return phonecalls or when he does tells me that he will "get around to it" and nothing is ever done. The only thing that does seem to work well is the maintenance requests. They maintenance staff is quick and everything is done efficiently and promptly. This is the very letter I sent to Steven D. Bell and recieved no reply. We eventually had to break the lease due to a mold problem that "may have" made my pregnant wife ill.
