A man who escaped a standoff with the Gwinnett County police SWAT team Thursday evening is still eluding authorities.

Roger Ray Crumblin, 31, has a violent past and is considered "armed and dangerous," said Gwinnett police spokesman Officer David Schiralli.

Roger Ray Crumblin, 31, is sought by Gwinnett County police for allegedly trying to kill his girlfriend on May 29.
Summerville, S.C., Police Department

Crumblin reportedly threatened to kill his live-in girlfriend with a knife Thursday afternoon at their apartment complex, 5375 Sugarloaf, on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth. Schiralli said the first officers to arrive around 3:30 p.m. tried to enter the apartment with the victim's key but discovered the front door had been dead-bolted from the inside.

Thinking that Crumblin was still holed up in the apartment, the officers called in the SWAT team about 6:30 p.m.

At some point during the night, Crumblin escaped through a back window. Schiralli said. Police discovered he was missing about 10 p.m.

Crumblin is wanted in Summerville, S.C., for allegedly trying to kill a man during a squabble over an unpaid debt during Thanksgiving weekend oin2006, said Capt. Jon Rogers of the Summerville Police Department.

After Crumblin argued with a 24-year-old male aquaintance, Crumblin pulled out a gun and shot the man three times in the legs and groin area, Rogers said. He then allegedly stole $240 cash from the wounded man's pockets.

Crumblin is from South Carolina and his family still lives there, Rogers said.

"He knows he is wanted here, we put him in the newspaper and he's been the news for a while now," Rogers said.

Crumblin has two prior convictions in South Carolina in 1994 and 1996, both involving crack cocaine distribution, according to Josh Gelinas, spokesman for the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

It was not known Friday whether Crumblin tried to return to his home state or was still hiding in the Atlanta area.
