Forced to Pay Too Much

I'm currently still living at the Madison at river sound complex, however, I feel that I've been forced into paying way too much for my monthly rent. When my 1 year lease was about to be up the leasing office sent me a notice saying I could renew my lease for $879.00/mth (a $39.00/mth increase). I felt like this was a bit high so after researching online I found out that my own apartment complex was renting my exact same style unit for $720/mth. When I asked the office about this their reply was, "Well, we have never renewed a lease for less than the original lease amount and there was absolutely nothing that would make them start doing so now." I'll just say I was pretty upset about the fact that they cared more about getting new residents into the complex than about keeping the residents they currently have. I ended up staying in my apartment and renewing my lease for $844/mth (only a $4/mth increase). I stayed only because of my 7 year old twin boys whom just started a new elementary school when we moved in a year ago. I didn't want them to have to start a 3rd new school by the 2nd grade. But on the 1st of every month when my rent is due, I cringe at the thought that the Madison has forced me into paying $124 extra each month for my unit. Don't get me wrong; My boys and I love our apartment floorplan and location, we only wish The Madison at River Sound cared about us too! Nice complex but don't get forced into paying too much like we did!

I live in a similar complex north of where you do and I do have to say, it's all about when you move in. I moved in during the peak of rentals and I paid top dollar, $649 for my one bedroom. When it was time to renew they tried to up me $40, I went and spoke to the property manager (this is a corporate owned complex) and got them down to only a $10 increase. Now my unit goes for $549 because they have trouble renting with houses being so cheap. But I'm okay with it, I rented at a hot time and got a great place.
