I hate hate hate it

I've lived here at Sugar Mill for almost a year. It is so miserable to come home everyday to this piece of trash property that I'm counting the days I get to move. ---- the general manager is universally disliked by every resident that I've talked with (to give you an idea...over 10 people). She's unprofessional, inexperienced, and cold-hearted. She and the other office staff are incompetant. They are generally hard to work with, and have no saying power with absolutely anything without consulting the higher-ups (who are an unmoving bunch and think only of the $). The office staff also need to work on their interpersonal communication skills, as I don't feel comfortable when I'm speaking with them. I usually feel that they think I'm just wasting their time if I come in the office.

The maintenance staff were wonderful. Very friendly and willing to help with anything they can. They get things fixed quickly, even during after-hours. But I noticed that the maintenance guys I usually had are now gone. With new guys, I'm not as happy with them, the others were waaaay better.

The environment is not peaceful, there are lots of unattended children running around everywhere, I'm always afraid I will run one over since they don't seem to pay attention to vehicles. Or they're yelling, screaming, touching other residents things, and/or climbing things they shouldn't be. Some of the adult residents are a little shady too. I heard firecrackers go off at about 10 pm last night (firecrackers happen occasionally for unknown reasons). People sit out in the breezeways just hanging out (looking into the parking lot''''!!!, smoking, and drinking). I've know someone's car that got broken into and things stolen out of it, and another resident on the top floor whose children started throwing things into the parking lot, aiming for cars.

The complex charges outrageous pet deposit fees (PER PET!). If I remember correctly it's $150 or so each. If I hadn't been desperate needing a place to live I would've laughed and walked out after hearing it. To break the lease is absolutely ridiculous. They want to charge for the remainder of your lease the 'market value' of your apartment (so imagine 'market value' is $1200 per month, and you got a 'deal' of $900, plus sixty days notice and some other outrageous charges). I also have had multiple acquaintances that moved out of an apartment here and they charged each one from $250-$500 in cleaning/repair fees. I know that one person that did EVERYTHING (filled holes, cleaned the carpet, spotless etc. etc), and they were still charged hundreds for nonsense fees). Mind you they aren't even considering the outrageous pet deposit fee paid at move-in.

The rent is also high considering the location of the complex and the quality of the apartments. They are run-of-the-mill, cheap appliances (the dishwashers they have drive me crazy for starters), and the water heaters are getting old. In my two-bedroom, the master was placed on the inner-side, right next to the stairwell. I can hear everything.

They will try lure you in with the nice gym, being pet-friendly, and a full washer-dryer, but I wouldn't recommend this place at ALL. I hate hate hate it. You can guarantee you'll be charged something when you move out too. No doubt about it. Also residents shouldn't mind pets because there are a lot here. Barking dogs and such. There are also quite a few feral cats.
