RUN TO ANOTHER COMPLEX FAST

Years at this apartment: 1999 - 2002
I have lived in the Crestmark Apartments for three (3) years (1999-current). I selected the Crestmark apartment complex for the following reason;
1.) The management staff were competent and helpful.
2.) The appartment complex was near a shopping mall, close to downtown and I-20.
3.) The was an early termination clause that was reasonable, if I needed to move because of a job change or a house purchase.
4.) The rent was comparable to the other complex in the area.
All was well with Crestmark until the new management team took over in 2002 The apartment complex sent out a flyer indicating that they were under new management and that nothing was changing except the new management team. All would be status quo. So, I signed a new lease to expire mid 2003. Little did I know that there were major changes in the fine print of the new lease.
The New Crestmark management now wants to charge excessive fees and penalties to renters if they need/want to terminate their lease early.
The new requirements are such that you cannot terminate your lease early unless you;
1) Pay your full monthly rent through the end of your lease,
2) Provide a 60 day notice, and
3) Pay a reletting fee = to one months rent.
Then you can terminate your lease. Oh, the only exception to this rule would be if you join the Armed Services, or are transferred by the Armed Services to another location.
So I would run fast to another complex that has everything you are looking for PLUS a flexible early termination clause that would lock you in.
