Years at this apartment: 2000 - 2002
I lived in Wesley Hampsted for 18 months. The management is a joke. I had a very noisy neighbor upstairs that would move furniture at 3AM, and had visitors that would sit in front of the apartment and honk their horn all hours of the night rather than get their lazy butt out of the car and walk up the stairs. I called management, but they did not care. Their answer... call security or the police. Call security and you MIGHT get someone to come by 2 hours later. Who wants to sit up and wait for security that MIGHT show up when it's already 3 AM '' Those people were a complete waste of time. I called on an apartment that had been left open and they never bothered to show up. Finally had to call the office. Leasing agents will tell you your water is included as a part of your monthly rent. Don't believe it. When I FINALLY did move, there were "overages" on my water bill and they kept over half my deposit refund. I have still not been able to get an acceptable explanation to that situation. Deposit refunds (IF you manage to get your deposit back, that is) take forever. On mine, the check was cut 20 days before the postmark on the envelope from THEIR mail machine. That means it sat somewhere for 20 days. Management LOST rent checks on two occasions forcing me to cancel checks and write new ones. Instead of a reminder that you might of forgotten to pay or some other mess up, they threaten you with eviction and pile on late charges, even before they have researched the problem. When they changed their computer systems to a new billing system, they messed up something and went around putting nasty letters on people's doors saying you owed more rent and had 24 hours to comply or legal action would be taken. Turns out it was THEIR new computer that caused the glitch. I saw at least a dozen of these little "love notes" on people's doors that month. Not one person I spoke to got an apology from management. Their view was always the tenant is wrong and management was right. A friend of mine lived there for two years as a tenant with a lease. When his lease expired, he went on a month to month basis for about 5 months until his house was completed. The managers raised his rent 3 times in that 5 month time frame.
Another little problem ignored by management... people going around checking for unlocked doors. On two occasions I sat in my apartment and watched my doorknob turn as a man checked to see if my door was locked. Fortunately my deadbolt was. On another occassion a man walked into the apartment while my wife and I were getting ready for work. When confronted (all 3 times) the person RAN. Obviously this was a problem yet management refused to recognize it, citing they were not responsible for my apartment's security. This is a "gated" complex with security guards. I think the key words were "NOT RESPONSIBLE".
Over all, I would not recommend renting from Wesley Hampstead. My house costs me only $30 more per month with a heck of a lot less hassles.
