BEWARE OF RIP OFF!!!

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008

I had problems with this community from the day I moved in until the day I left as mentioned by another tenant. When I viewed the apt, one big seller for me was the security patrolling the complex and one by the gate. They looked very professional-I even made a joke that they looked like the SWAT team. First of all, the security was gone in the short week it took me to sign my lease. My leasing consultant was extremely unprofessional and was concerned more about my personal life (if I was involved was my boyfriend going to be living with me...)than making sure I received quality customer service. I specifically told him that being a single parent I wanted an apartment on an upper level, in the front of the complex and preferably the front of the building. When it was time to sign my lease I had an apartment downstairs, in the back of the complex AND building (exactly opposite of what I requested). However, it was too late to move elsewhere because I'd already given notice to the last community I was at, and could not afford to put my furniture in storage since I had to pay all these outrageous unexpected fees they came up with the day I moved in (not to mention I had no where to go!). One of them was the same as mentioned in another complaint, a $200 holding fee I was unaware of until I was moving in. When I disputed this, the leasing consultant got angry and defensive although it was his error. He tried telling me I could not be given my keys until paying everything which totaled to hundreds of dollars incuding my prorated rent. So, I discussed it with management and basically told them their staff was incompetent and I wasn't leaving the office without my keys. Needless to say, I ended up paying the $200 a week later and he eventually got fired.
My first experience with maintenance was a young guy coming to fix my stove and the whole time his eyes were roaming. He even asked me about one of my books I had on the bookshelf just to make small talk while looking around my apt! He pretended to be a reader but didn't even know of the library right down the street so I changed the subject back to my stove.
I too, was victimized by the burglaries that summer. When I made the police report management was there and seemed all too paranoid in defense of the property. This made me think of the many times my apartment was entered into without prior notice, especially considering my doors and windows were unlocked when I got home. Before the break in one of my neighbors even told me that they entered into my apartment and left my door wide open. NO ONE else had a key to my unit...EVER, yet management kept asking me if I locked the doors. Again, I am a young single parent that looks even younger and having no family in the state, much less any visitors-of course I locked my doors and windows, matter fact I never even used the windows! It wasn't until after my incident was I given notice of the other break ins. The next day I talked to management about the possibility of maintenance being in my apartment and the assistant manager said, "Didn't you tell police it was domestic'" as if she was trying to embarrass me or something since I had my boyfriend there. I politely replied, No they asked if I had any enemies and I explained my ex husband was pretty bitter but I didn't tell him where I lived nor did I know where he was living.
Another problem I had was someone following me from the mailbox. When I got to the back and turned left towards my unit he turned right towards the other end of the property. Then, all of a sudden he comes speeding by as if he wanted to see where I lived. One night when I was going to work, he was parked out front and left right before I got to my car. I informed police and let management know of a possible stalker (I got his license plate) and police relayed it to management. Come to find out he did in fact live in the community and these idiots told me they asked him why he was hanging around and following me to my apartment. Of course he said he was just looking at me by the mailbox and that's not a crime. When he was by my apt he said that he had a friend in my building. I could have been hurt if he was truly crazy because of their ignorance.
I had a problem with mold forming on my windows no matter how often I cleaned them. So, I figured it was a problem with the type of windows installed and management basically told me it was my problem and to keep cleaning the windows, there was nothing they could do. Despite all of my problems, I could not find a decent complex convenient to my workplace, school, doctors etc. and decided to renew. I paid the transfer fee for a larger apt on a higher level and was told I would be issued keys one mth before my current lease was up in May. May came and went and I never received those keys or was even being considered for another apt. They claimed I was supposed to stay where I was, so I had to find an apartment in a week and they gave me a horrible reference trying to say I was breaking my lease. I cleaned the apartment spotless, nothing was damaged and never received a dime from my deposit. I am currently seeking legal action....take my advice,if you care about quality of living over quantity of problems DO NOT MOVE THERE!!!!!
