We moved here 18 months ago and lived in a two bedroom apartment overlooking the lake. We actually really enjoyed living there. We had a couple of small issues with sugar ants, but managed to get rid of them pretty quickly.
Six weeks ago we transferred to a 3 bedroom apartment as we are expecting twins in September. We unfortunately had to lose our lake view, but that turned out to be the least of our worries. We soon found out that we have a horrendous German Cockroach infestation. We kill approximately 20 a day and that is just the ones that we manage to see and catch. We have had pest control out 4 times now in the 6 weeks that we have been here. Each time it has made no difference at all. We also bought bug bombs at our own expense as a last desperate attempt to kill them. Again, it made no difference.
The apartment next to ours has been abandoned for over a month now and is absolutely crawling... Literally!!! Not to mention the smell of pet urine and blatant filth. We have been into the leasing office several times regarding this situation and for the most part we were met with a vacant smile and a programmed answer that they will get pest control to come out on Tuesday. Trouble is that pest control never come by until after 4pm when I have already left work. Being 7 months pregnant with twins I don't really want to sit in the apartment while it is being fumigated. So.... We went to the office to ask if they can come by in the morning and we were told with a silly smile "They come on Tuesday but we don't know what time!", "They come on Tuesday but we don't know what time!", "They come on Tuesday but we don't know what time!"... It's really difficult as an educated individual to be confronted with a silly smile and a robotic answer by someone who is clearly not smarter than a fifth grader, every time you go in there. To be fair.. Teri, is really the only one that has ever been helpful and shown genuine concern.
After being informed of our conversation with the Cobb County health department regarding our Roach problem, Kevin, the manager finally called us and said that they would be sending in pest control to the next door apartment to do a "special" extermination which involves spraying and vacuuming up the roaches every three days. We asked if they were going to go into the walls where the roaches live and they said that it was not necessary as this treatment had proved very successful once before. So... now we are left to wait and see if that works, knowing full well that this really is not the solution. The health inspector advised us that the only way to clear an infestation of this magnitude would be to tent the entire building and have all the residents move out for an full week... Hmmm... But "They come on Tuesday but we don't know what time!" "They come on Tuesday but we don't know what time!"...AAGGGHHHH
So now we are left with a decision! We have 7 weeks before our twins arrive and have no intention of bringing them into this apartment under these conditions. The constant spraying of pesticide has not seemed to harm the roaches, but we are very concerned that it will harm our newborn babies! According to the health inspector it should be possible to break our lease and be assisted with funding to relocate yet again. Fortunately after we move... We won't care what time they come on Tuesday... They come on Tuesday...They come on Tuesday...They come on Tuesday...They come on Tuesday...
Just in case you are still considering moving to Eastlake... Avoid apartments 874 & 876!!!
