Hi Guys,
Sorry for the long post. Be careful about the Lease Contract.
We enquired to move into this apartment and their sales agent and has showed us few properties and we decided on one apartment and requested for a 6 month lease with a choice to go month ? month after that.
We then came into their office and signed the paperwork thinking that it was for 6 months. After signing the paperwork, I started looking into some of the details of the paperwork and noticed the paperwork was talking about a 12 months lease (NOT 6 MONTHS). We then immediately pointed out about that to the sales person. He then apologized and said it was a clerical error. He gave us another copy of the changed lease (only page-1 of the agreement) which now stated 6 month lease. So, we initialed that as well.
He then told us that he would now give us the keys to the apartment and while we move into the apartment he would make a copy of the agreement later and drop it off at the apartment.
After we moved in we forgot to ask for a copy of the agreement (WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE A BIGGEST MISTAKE). We were expecting the renewal notice and when we did not receive anything, we went to the leasing office and asked them about it. To our SHOCK we were told that the reason we were not sent a renewal notice was that ?We signed a 12 month lease?. The sales person removed the 6 months contract that we signed and he is no longer working there. Now the management at The Falls at Sope creek apartment manager was very rude and forcing us to give 2 minths advanced notice and we also had to break the lease ($800 fee towards breaking the lease). Its an expensive mistake for us.
