This has been, quite possibly, the single worst experience of my life. Take it from me. This place is a slum.

Okay, Stupid country girl moving to big city plus signing a 13 mo. lease at Highland Parc = MAJORLY BAD DECISION. I stored my things here for about a month before I actually physically moved in. Had it not been for that, I would have probably moved out the first day I was there. Maintenance is terrible. I had to call SEVEN times, before they finally fixed my air conditioner mid-summer. And then, when it was finally fixed, they acted like they had done me some huge favor. My neighbors are loud and don't speak any English. But the one neighbor who actually did spent most of his time dealing drugs at all hours of the night to everyone in the neighborhood and beating the living crap out of his crack-fiend girlfriend to the point where I had to call the police. And speaking of police, did I mention the drug bust next door to me' So, I'm coming back to my apartment one afternoon and I have to step over this goon next door to me and 4 other random people lined up on the steps in handcuffs. The bug situation was horrendous. I sprayed under my kitchen counter, becuase I saw a roach run underneath it. Within a minute, I counted a trail of 32 medium and baby-sized dead roaches that had crawled from the crevice, down my cabinet, and onto the floor below. The roaches were horrendous. I probably saw at least 60 my first week. Pest control sprayed for several months. It didn't help the problem. I can't have people over. I'm too embarrassed to ever have company in this place. And my first 2 months here I actually slept with the lights on at night, because I was so terrified of the bugs. More than once, I have actually awakened in the middle of the night with one in my bed. I have no dishes in my cabinets. I cannot use them becuase my kitchen is so bug infested. So, I keep them sealed in a container and use as needed. I have even found roaches in my dishwasher on more than one occassion. My only saving grace has been that I haven't seen too many since the weather has turned cool. Parking is atrocious. The only spaces available after 8 are near the dark, smelly dumpster. Oh joy! I couldn't afford to break my lease, so I've just had to endure it. I've actually been apartment hunting since the second month I moved here. My lease is up March 2 and I must say that that will undoubtedly be the happiest day of my life. Please, I beg you, don't dare make the same mistake that I did. A big and cheap apartment, isn't necessarily a great deal. I'll pay $200 dollars more a month just to avoid another nightmare such as this one. THIS PLACE IS PRACTICALLY A SLUM. WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T MOVE TO THIS HELLHOLE. I WARNED YOU!!!!

I agree 100%. I am a resident and I am moving out in a couple of months. I have called the police so many times from noise, assaults, etc. that I have lost count. I recently called about a woman screaming who woke me from a deep sleep. I will never forget the sound of her screams. 2 days later we were sent a notice about an assault on the property.. so yes a woman was raped. A couple days after that we were sent a notice about an attempted kidnapping on the property. Needless to say that now all of a sudden the gates are fixed and close at 7pm! I have been here for a couple years and it took a rape, kidnapping, drug busts, etc. to FINALLY get some more security that we have already been paying for.
Also, they finally upgraded the fitness center, but now we have to use a key (never sent a letter about the change) instead of the key card and the double lock is thrown at 10pm so we can't get access even with a key! Geez!
The point about the ROACHES is so true! ROACHES galore. I have even stopped cooking alltogether. I LOVE to cook too. I woke up to a roach in my bed midmorning today and I was so tempted to break my lease, but as I only have a couple months to go, I will not give them the satisfaction of getting more money out of me to NOT live there.
RUN, DON'T WALK from this place. I know times are tough, but I'd rather be on a friend's couch or pay a bit more to not have to deal with this sh**! I am too grown and classy for this place. :)

I completely agree with both of your reviews! I lived there with my bf in 2006 for only 8 months thank god. The roaches were bad, but luckily we were too naive to really notice all the drug crap around, and thankfully we've never seen any violence while living there.
Do not stay there ever, not worth it!!!
