We moved into these apartments in November of 2007. When we did our initial inspection of the place we were very pleased with the property and lay out of the apartment. We singed out paperwork with one person, and that s when our nightmare began. I called to find out the status of the apartment we were going to moved (we were supposed to move at the beginning of October) into and was informed someone else moved into it. At that time we needed a ground floor apartment because I was having back surgery and could not walk up and down stairs. Anyway, after some crying on my part and my fianc talking to the office they found us another apartment but we wouldn t be able to move in until November. Not much we can do about it now, so we stay with some friend for a month until we can get into the new place. When we moved in and signed the actual lease with all the information and gave them the money we were still excited to move in. The first months rent came and it was more then we were told by $40.00. When the office was questioned about this we were told the person that signed the lease with us was wrong and they had to fix this. Well that didn t set well with me and set the pace of my entire stay at this complex. Fast forward a year and a half. I ll give a quick break down of some of the things that happened in that year, our kitchen, living room and master bedroom ceilings leaked, not just little drops here and there but pouring rain from the ceiling and when we called maintenance he said there was nothing he could do about it today and gave us buckets. The floors between our apartment and the one above us had to of been made of paper as we could hear EVERYTHING, the kids crying, the parents having sex, arguing, just everything, the office informed us there was nothing they could do. We moved out as soon as our lease would allow us to without having to pay the horrible fees. On move out day the movers came and we packed up and moved out of there happy to be going. We went to the office to turn in our key s and have the walk through done. When we got to the office my fianc was informed that everything was ok, he asked about the walk through and the lady told him it was ok. Whew we thought, finally done, and good riddance (they had even changed management companies and they were/are still awful). We have been in our new townhouse for 6 months now and I get a letter from a collections agency saying we own Laurel Hills money for destruction of property. There was nothing wrong with the place when we left other then a spot on the carpet between the kitchen and living area (could have been steam cleaned) and one of the slats in the blind was broken (and if you choose to move in here you will find that the blinds are the cheapest things n the market and will break if you look at them wrong). All of this was fine and dandy as they still had not sent us our deposit back. Now we have to fight with these people all over again and have not lived there for 6, I repeat 6 months. I called their corporate office and have left messages for someone to call me to discuss this, I have not heard from anyone. I wrote the collection agency and they said they would have 30 days to respond.
To sum up my very long rant here, write everything down when you have contact with these people, take pictures when you leave and don t get rid of them and if the office tells you something again, get it in writing, and if they tell you they can t give you something in writing it s not something they will commit to.
