What exactly does the rent pay for, anyway'

I've been here almost three years and I'm still trying to figure out what exactly was upgraded. New paint, new roof, pet-waste disposal cans that people don't use except to clean out their cars, OK, great, but the insides of the apartments are still sketchy; water damage, cracked plaster, and nail holes aren't uncommon. The windows are horrendous; my bedroom is at least ten degrees colder than the rest of the apartment in the winter, and practically no air comes out of the heating vent despite my room being the closest to the furnace. There's a place where the carpet has pulled away from the brass strip at the kitchen, and stepping on that thing with bare feet hurts.
As for the facilities, the tennis courts are a joke. They're cracked and the nets sag - either fix them, or just turn them into all-purpose courts. The pool is OK, but the fitness center was horrible the last time I used it. The equipment either didn't work or was unsafe to use. The trash that piles up near the front is ridiculous as well. Monitor how full the container is and schedule pickups accordingly. There, problem solved. Had I seen that when I came to check out apartments, I would've ruled it out immediately.
Gables had this place running decently, but since Madison took over it's gone downhill big-time. I used to feel pretty comfortable here, but it's becoming pretty grungy. I'm probably going to leave when the lease is up.
The only upside to moving here is Melinda in the office - she's fantastic. She reacts when you call with a problem, and is always pleasant and honest with you. Maintenance tends to be pretty decent, though you can expect a band-aid fix and not anything substantial (not their fault, they have to do what management says they'll pay to do.)
