Well, where shall I begin? The only reason I'm taking time to write this review is because I sincerely want to help other people by letting them know what they are getting into. Two years ago, my husband and I moved into River Heights and I will admit, they looked fairly nice from the outside. Even the pics of the inside looked pretty nice from what we could tell, so we were excited about moving in. Little did we know we were embarking on disaster. When we moved in, the summer of 2005, we noticed that our cooling system was NOT cooling. We requested that maintainence check on the problem because our electric bills were astronomical and we were still SWEATING! Not to mention it was "monsoon" season and the heat humidity caused the painted-over black mold to resurface in the windowsills. So it was "looked into" and the problem continued. When the apartment continued to heat up in the month of July, the air unit was replaced but not properly connected and the bills kept getting higher. Finally, in August-September, the maintainence realized their mistake and fixed it! Life went on, but one morning right before my husband was about to go to work, our water heater EXPLODED gushing water into the main living areas of the apartment. Thankfully, he was able to get maintainence to come suck all the water out and silly me for thinking the saturated carpet would be replaced. A few other leaks occured until this past Christmas. My husband and I are both teachers so we took a nice vacation during December to see my grandmother who lives 9 hours away. Our neighbor who lived above us at the time offered to feed our fish while we were gone. One evening when he returned home from work, he found his apartment was flooding with water from the water heater above him. It appeared that maintenance had already been in his apartment using his VACUUM cleaner to suck up water...then leaving it for him in the bathtub and walking away. He knew we weren't home so he ran down to check out our stuff to find we were flooded too with all our electronics getting soaked. He called and called maintenence and received no answer. He called us to let us know and we didn't hear from maintenance until 10:00 that night. My husband and I ended our trip early so we could come "clean-up" from the mess. When we got home, the ceiling and walls were saturated, cracking, and sagging. The only remedy to the extreme moisture in the air was a dehumidifer that was not properly connected and was sucking moisture in and pumping it through the hose back into our pantry!! I have respiratory issues and couldn't stay in the apartment for more than 30 minutes at a time without having trouble breathing. We went to the apartment manager, Rebecca, hoping to get some resolution to our problem- and she looked at us, made a couple of sarcastic remarks, and basically told us to deal with it. She said she would look into repairs and would let us know when she found out what would be done. Meanwhile, we spent the nights at hotels, with friends, and with family. Thankfully we didn't have to be back at work until a few days into January. After not hearing from Rebecca, my husband returned to ask her if she had any news about our apartment and she replied, "I said I'd let you know!" Well, when your living in hotel rooms, it is kind of urgent! -Don't you think?? Anyway- he mentioned he was going to talk to our attorney because he didn't feel things were being dealt with properly. She immediately got heated and told him to leave. He said he just wanted to know what actions were being taken and she told him to talk to her attorney if he had questions and insisted he leave. Because he felt he was being treated unfairly, he insisted that she should talk to him so he sat down and she called the police!!! When the police got there, he explained to them the problem and-FYI- if someone asks you to leave, you need to. She filed a Criminal Trespass Warning on my husband who doesn't have a record for EVER doing anything wrong!! This meant that he was not allowed to enter the office again or he would be arrested!- This also meant that I had to do all the communication/rent-paying etc. Meanwhile- the problem still exists. The ceiling was tested 100% saturation in some places and the mold issues worsened. The windowsills are almost completely black at this point. Our insurance agent came out to check and claimed the apartment to be "non-habitable" and spoke with Rebecca, who is sweet-as-pie until you have issues that need resolution. She told him the saturated areas would be ripped out and replaced. The repair men show up and PLASTER/PAINT over EVERYTHING! It was so bad that the water stains seeped back through, revealing the truth about the repairs..not to mention the ceiling was still sagging. Well, it took a month to be repaired and since- we've had a few other leaks such as in our electrical outlets...nothing major- sarcasm! And this is the icing on the cake...can you believe that even though our "quality of living" has basically been shot to heck, our rent was only going to increase by about 100.00 a month! It's asinine I tell you! Luckily, we were highly motivated to buy our first home so we're out of here in no time! Thanks for reading my novel and I assure you that I am being completely honest about this experience. Oh yeah- did I mention that after my neighbor from upstairs moved out due to damages, a week later we received new neighbors who have a young child that is jumping around so horribly that our cabinets and wall hangings are rattling!

Just wanted to let anyone know who took the time to read the 'novel' that she is telling the truth. I was one of her neighbors and witnessed all of the chaos first hand. I litterally stuck my finger through her drywall ceiling in her kitchen- it was completely saturated, and this was 4 days after the fact!!! The situation was handled quite poorly, and I can't wait until I am gone, too!
