Read your lease before you leave....

I lived there for a year. I was one of the first to live in my bldg there. For 6mnths out of the year, my lights had no light fixtures over them. The fixtures were cheap and kept falling in other apts, so they removed them and did not replace them. I never had a problem with the staff....until. I had somen things come up with my finances. I inquired about breaking my lease to mgmt. I explained my situation to her and was advised that it would cost me more to break it than to just stay. Ok, so I understand that and I am fine with that. It was the mid of Nov. My lease was up at the end of Dec. I moved out. I left everything clean, nothing wrong with the carpet.....perfect! It was over the holidays and I had a difficult time getting the keys back to the office. I was able to catch the same mgmt personal one evening as she was locking up. Come to find out I was suppose to submit a 30 day WRITTEN notice to not renew my lease. '''''' If staff cared and wasnt trying to screw you, they would have told me that day I inquired about breaking my lease to put it on paper right then or atleast remind me that was part of my lease. NOPE! I dont feel like I owe them 800.00 ( one month's rent) for not making it a written notice. I told the mgmt personal!!! Anyway! If you have signed a lease here....please make sure you read your lease and remember this when it is time to move out. I plan to contact the corp office, b/c this is already on my credit report and will keep me from being able to get another apartment or home for that matter.
