I have been living at Preston Mill for 1 1/2 years with my husband; our daughter is now 8 months old. We got a great deal on rent and they did not raise it when we resigned our lease. The office staff has been very up front about rent, fees, and the terms of the lease; like all apartments, there are penalties if you terminate your lease agreement early.

Whenever we have requested maintenance, the work has been completed within 24 hours. They change lightbulbs, replace smoke detector batteries, tighten fixtures. On one occasion, they repaired our air conditioning promptly. They even came to install a light kit (that we purchased) to our ceiling fans when we requested it.

There is some noise. That is the nature of living in an apartment community with families, kids and dogs. Rarely is there noise enough to wake my sleeping daughter. We can hear some noise in the stairwell that borders our master bedroom (footsteps, voices), but nothing alarming or disruptive. Maybe we got lucky and just have respectful neighbors in our building. We are also on the third floor, which cuts down on pedestrian traffic outside our door.

There are some kids/young adults that loiter outside our building, which is annoying, but tolerable. I have not witnessed any criminal activity, and have no reason to suspect any.

I was horrified to see a dog urinate on his second floor apartment deck, but sadly, this is a problem of disrespectful, lazy pet owners, and not the management's problem.

One strike against Preston Mill is that the gates are often broken, and when they are functioning properly, my gate remote works only about 50% of the time. I am now on my 3rd remote.

We also had a pipe leak/burst in our storage space, which ruined some of our belongings. Maintenance came and fixed it promptly, but we were stuck with the water damage. We checked our lease and it states that they are not responsible for any loss due to water damage, so I can't complain about that.

Overall, I would recommend Preston Mill. It's a decent place to live for such a great price, and we've had great service from the office staff.
