My wife and I have lived at Highland Lakes Apartments (formerly Ashley Lakes) for 4 years now. Our lease runs out next month and we can't wait to leave. The new management is the least helpful group of people I have ever dealt with. As I write this, I have been waiting nearly 3 weeks for a maintenance man to come and fix our bathroom sink. I have called numerous times and have been ignored.

The last time I had a maintenance issue, it took them 11 days to come and fix the tub in our master bath. The time before that, it was over a week to get the garbage disposal fixed. Mind you, these are not major jobs I'm talking about. It took less than 5 minutes to fix the disposal when they finally showed up and about 20 minutes to fix the tub. The maintenance guys ride around in golf carts picking up trash on the grounds but never actually fixing any problems.

Speaking of trash, the grounds are constantly covered in litter. Everyday I see beer bottles, fast food bags, cups, and little plastic baggies that I am sure are used for drug transactions. We often hear gun shots at night, and the police are here at least twice a day for one reason or another. My wife is actually afraid to go outside here at night now because of all the riff-raff that hangs out in our parking lot at all hours of the day and night.

To top everything else off, we have a roach problem. We have been constantly complaining about this issue for going on 5 months now, and I still kill 4 or 5 roaches every single day. Once a week they send an exterminator around, he spends 2 or 3 minutes spraying the same spray every week. It is pretty clear that the bugs have become immune to the poison, yet no changes have been made. On three separate occasions the apartment manager, Maria, has promised to send maintenance with the exterminator so that our appliances could be moved to insure that the spray actually gets to where the roaches are. Her promise has yet to be fulfilled.

Maria has also made numerous assurances that every work order will be filled in a 72 hour period from when the original call was made. As I have already stated, my work orders are taking from 1 to 3 weeks to be filled. When you call her on that fact, she is full of ready-made excuses to explain why her maintenance men are too busy to carry out their duties.

In conclusion, I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. The management will lie to you at every turn while never getting even the simplest tasks completed. The grounds are covered in trash and dog poop that is never picked up, and the area is becoming less safe by the day.

Do yourself and your family a favor and STAY AWAY FROM HIGHLAND LAKES!!!!!
