I moved here last minute because of another complex dropping the ball on the day I was supposed to move in. I moved into Berkshire site-unseen. The staff was pleasant, because they want your money. The unit I viewed and moved into was one of the newly renovated units. The windows were falling apart and we were assured that all of the windows in the complex would be replaced by September, that is the only reason I accepted this particular unit. Now that the frame to my bathroom window is sitting next to the sink, they tell me that there is NO difinitive start date for begining the window replacements in the complex. I've had the apartment sprayed for bugs, the silverfish/waterbugs are gone but the occasional roach makes his presence known. I actually shapped a picture of one the size of my thumb and brought it into the leasing office. The A/C in the master bedroom does not work, I started calling about this in May, before it started to get hot...they keep telling me they need to get a list of residents who have issues and then get a private contractor out there to fix it. Ok, how long are we going to wait until we decide it's time to call someone in''
On the good side, the maintenance team is pleasant and usually get to you within 24 hours, sometimes same day.
Upon further inspection, the floor of the closet that the water heater sits on was and still is sinking. Their fix was to shim it up with a wooden block, the vent pipe was disconnected and the relief valve was removed. There has been a continuous smell of natural gas in my kitchen. Nothing severe, but it's there, the maintenance continuously insists there is no odor. The guy came in with an open flame and ran it along all the fittings..........genious.
Obvious patch job in my ceiling. No mold yet, been here 3 months. I don't feel unsafe here, my vehicles have never been bothered except for the occasional stray soccer ball.

There is a sign in Mexico that says, "move to Norcross, Ga", next to that sign is a tunnel that is a straight shot from there to this apartment complex. Noisy, inconsiderate, completely oblivious to the fact that other people live there. Cars honking horns in the wee hours of the morning instead of GETTING OUT OF THE CAR AND RINGING THE BELL!! The children play in the parking lots, kicking balls into cars.
The on-call courtsey officer does not exist. I've called countless times about noise at all hours and have NEVER received a call back. They stand on their balconies and scream for their children, into their cell phones, at each other, at the icecream man they missed going by....always screaming. And then there are the high-tension wires running through the middle of the complex........and the train....love the train.

I'm a new resident and already can't wait for my lease to be up, might not wait that long. I'm already looking for something a little further west along the parimeter.

Run away, spend the extra money and get a place that is not over-run with illegals, oh I'm sorry, "undocumented immigrants". Shoddy construction, whole place is made of wood, the leasing office went up in flames this weekend.

Everything mentioned in this and other posts became my motivation to buy a house and leave apartment living. The floors, walls and ceilings do not have any sound-proofing. I can sometimes hear my neighbor's conversations and always hear La Raza on their stereos. Who needs Rosetta Stone when a glass against the wall will provide language immersion? Cockroaches, centipedes, silverfish - so familiar despite numerous treatments that I could give them names, but the leasing office would charge me a pet deposit. Also tired of going out to my vehicle to find people leaning on it while they shoot the breeze in the parking lot. Picked up a few door dings too despite my efforts to park away from other cars. Hot tub hasn't worked in the year I've been here (although if I ask I'm told it will be taken care of "soon") and the tennis courts are used like a soccer field. Never seen the car wash operational either. I move out in 4 weeks and am happily counting down...!

I totally agree, I moved in with expectaions of more up to date remodeling to still take place. And hasnt yet. It takes weeks for the Maint crew to coem fix something, and Even then they come in tell you its not broke so they dont have to fix it, and it takes several more tries to get things done.

Absolutely correct! I am a current tenant here and will be moving out soon. The experience has been terrible. The maintenance runs at their own pace as well. Once they came to fix my AC [which I took off of work to be there, I have serious trust issues and won't allow them in unless I am there] The AC appeared to be fixed, he didn't say anything to me about it other than 'Bye'. A few days later I entered my apartment and noticed some things had been moved around.. I could tell someone had been in my unit. I called the office and they told me that the work order was not completed and they still had to fix it. I do not like the fact that they entered my apartment without my knowledge and had I not called them they would have never told me. This was also one of their speedier service times.. Recently, my AC went out again.. some simple part that maintenance could easily take from a vacant unit and put in mine temporarily.. but he suggests to order a new part instead, tells me it will be in 2 days and it will be fixed then. 5 days go by.. Not a word from maintenance.. we call the office and no one answers.. I finally had to catch them in the office and they acted like they didn't care.. You know 90 degrees in your house for more than half of the day is not an emergency.. I cannot believe that. Especially, when maintenance could of got a spare part from another unit. 5 days with out AC..and I pay to live here.. Oh, and the 2 situations were only about a month or 2 apart.. Every 3 months the unit will have an issue even in the winter. They are so old and need to be replaced. Last year's electric bill was more than $200 because the AC is not energy efficient. I complained to the office something may be wrong with the unit and they said it was my fault for not having it just set to 72. [When I had it at 72 the current temp would read near 80 sometimes higher than 80] Now, this year in April 2009 we decided when the AC went out we would just wait until we had a day off to call them. But the weather was so nice we just had 3 fans on almost 24 hours a day.. We didn't use the AC at all.. and our bill was $12!!! I am not lying!! The rent seems cheap at first but once you pay water, sewer, & garbage which is added to your rent you wind up paying about $775 on average for a 2/2 unit.. Plus, gas, electric, cable, and phone. So at then end of the day you spend about $1000 easily. The cable really sucks! I was never told about a deposit for the Dish network.. but it didn't matter anyways because I'm in a location where there is no reception for it. Can't get a dish so my only choice is Direct Path, and they are terrible.
