While this was definitely not the nicest place in town, it was cheap, and you get what you pay for. We rented a 3 BR 2 Bath place for $495, and it was livable. (Made for college kids!) The rooms were average size, and while we had quite a few problems that needed to be fixed, maintenance responded same day each time.
We had a HUGE mold problem that was never resolved and a bullet hole in our front window, but I think our apartment was slightly cheaper than those around us because of this. These are nothing nice to look at, but they are safe and can be spruced up pretty well.
While pets were not allowed, almost everyone here has pets, so if you don't like dogs or cats, stay away. My next door neighbor had two loud little pups, lots of other people had dogs and cats, and there were stray cats everywhere (two of which I took in). Luckily, the management isn't too nosey, so this was never an issue.
Parking is usually okay, but on occasion it can get tight. About 2/3 of the residents are college students, so when there are parties, you may have trouble. We actually got a notice from management that we were consistently using too many spaces.
Office staff is very nice and helpful and will sometimes come out after hours free of charge (although they are supposed to and sometimes do charge), but be careful--you must clean very thoroughly to get any deposit back. We cleaned for 12 hours before we moved, and they still charged me $27 to clean the inside of the stove!
Also, beware, the walls are thin, and the neighbors are noisey!
