Nice Community, Convenient Location

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009
I have lived in several apartment communities over the years and I can truly say that Autumn Ridge is by far the best community. We have lived her for a little over a year now and are overall very happy with the complex. The apartments here are older than most other apartment communities in the area, and the appliances, cabinets, and light fixtures will attest to this, but the other features of the complex more than compensate for this.
As was explain to us, these apartments were originally built as condos, so each apartment has its own private entry. This is so nice because I know that if someone is within 30 feet from my door, they are coming to my apartment. Previously, we have always lived in apartment communities where 6 to 10 different apartments share the same breezeway/entryway, so people were constantly walking within feet of our apartment door. The secluded entry adds a feeling of security and privacy, and eliminates the noise from other residents walking by and being loud at all hours of the night, as experienced with every other community.
The age of the apartments actually adds to the peaceful and relaxing atmosphere of the community. In addition to the nice flowers and open grassy areas, very large, beautiful oak trees are scattered around the complex creating shaded and peaceful areas to grill out, read, or play with the dog. Also, a recently-paved walking path connects the apartment complex to East Roswell Park, which, in addition to typical park amenities, includes an 18 hole, extremely challenging disc golf course (completely in the woods).
Autumn Ridge is not a gated community (which may be unsettling to some), but only has one entrance/exit, which is a huge deterrent to crime. Also, the community is relatively small (only a little over 100 units) and I've noticed that most residents are very alert and aware of any suspicious activity. In over a year of living here, I have yet to see or hear of any crime or malicious activities stemming from this community; a nice change compared to our other experiences. I have found that the gates in most gated communities are more of a nuisance than a benefit anyway.
As with any apartment community, there are times when we can hear noises from the children playing outside or our neighbors moving the furniture around in the apartment above us, but this is to be expected when living in such close proximity to other residents. However, this is by far the most quiet apartment I have ever had, as most everyone is very respectful and courteous in regards to noise. It seems the average age of Autumn Ridge residents is higher than the other apartments we looked at, so the loud music and obnoxious high school/college parties that we became so accustom to at our old apartment is practically non-existent (and is "strictly prohibited" as per the lease agreement). It's nice to finally be able to go to sleep before 2 am on a Saturday night now.
The apartments themselves are large and open, but do not have the most up-to-date appliances and amenities. From what I've heard, some apartments have been recently updated with all new appliances, cabinets, fixtures, faucets, and counter tops, but the majority still have older appliances (I would guess at least 5 years old). Although this can be categorized as cosmetic, which is of little importance to me, the lack of appliances with Energy Star ratings, as well as, more efficient heating (still uses a heat pump) and cooling systems has led to a higher than expected energy bill on several occasions, especially when having very cold or hot weather. Aside from this and a kitchen that's definitely on the small side, the size of the rooms and living space is more than adequate. When looking for apartments, this was the only complex we found in this price range with 13X15 ft bedrooms and larger.
The maintenance team is knowledgeable and courteous, providing quick responses and repairs when necessary. As mentioned in other reviews, maintenance has seemed to suffer a little at the end of 2008, but they have since replaced one of their maintenance personnel, and the quality of repairs and responsiveness to maintenance issues is once again top-notch. The maintenance supervisor (I think that's his title), Alex, is an incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and trustworthy person who always seems to have the answer, regardless of the maintenance question.
The office staff is also knowledgeable and very courteous. As stated in other reviews, there was a staffing transition at the end of 2008 and beginning of 2009 (previous office manager was promoted and moved to a different location) that led to a somewhat sub-par level of service. And though it's not quite the same with Marci gone, Tabitha has done an excellent job of getting the new office staff up to speed and in the swing of thing. The new staff is very kind and really seems to want to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.
Overall, we are very happy with our apartment decision; in fact, we recently renewed our lease for another year. As with any apartment, Autumn Ridge has its pros and cons, but the pros far outshine the cons. I have been as truthful and accurate as possible in my review here, so I hope this will be of help when deciding whether to choose Autumn Ridge Apartments as a place to live.
